Is it possible to claim 2 delay repays at the same time?

Hi all,

I'm due a delay repay/service delay refund for the chaos that ensued at London Liverpool Street last Thursday evening.

My options at the time were to travel to White Hart Lane or Northumberland Park.

Because there were no trains going to either station, is it allowable to claim a delay repay from Abellio (Northumberland Park) and also LO (White Hart Lane)

Only asking, as I could obviously only undertake one journey - but both operators failed me at the same time.

The key is in the name Delay Repay. You make a claim against the operator that caused delay to the journey that you actually took. To claim against the second operator would be fraud.

Also, you may only make a claim for delay incurred during a journey you actually took. If you abandoned the journey, it is not due at all; with a single or return ticket you may instead be due a refund of the relevant ticket. With Oyster or similar, you didn't pay anyway.

I'm guessing that you didn't plan to take a specific operator and planned to take whichever operator's service was departing first when you arrived at Liverpool St?
What I do in these situations is look at the timetables to see which operator's service was timetabled to depart first after the time you arrived, and claim on the assumption that that would be the service you would have taken had it not be delayed.

But no, you cannot claim from multiple TOCs in the way you describe.

Not strictly true, as abandonment is also a reason. e.g. from Southern's website:

A Delay Repay claim should only be submitted for journeys that were actually made or journeys that were abandoned due to disruption (in the case of Season Ticket holders)

and what about a Season ticket?
For monthly or longer season tickets, most (all?) operators offer void days - basically a discount against your next season ticket if the service is disrupted during the peaks.

AFAIK Void days are being phased out. New franchises use the Delay Repay scheme for season ticket holders instead

Regardless, you can only claim against one operator. Claiming against two would be fraud.

No, not all, not even most. On Delay Repay TOCs, it is indeed correct to claim Delay Repay for a journey abandoned[1] due to delay, but only for season tickets. For regular tickets, if the journey was abandoned, a refund of the fare is what is due.

[1] This has an obvious issue in that at what point do you consider it was going to happen? It is to a fair extent discretionary.
