I bought tickets for this trip for the April, 1 -

NVBJ6.png

Unfortunately, I cannot find the EUS-TOM tube train at 20:22 with 29m journey.

I went to the National Rail site and I cannot find it - all the journeys are longer and have 1 change.

I understand that I will miss the earlier train which is 29m minutes and instead will have to take other train and make a change?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

National Rail doesn't actually have a timetable for the Underground so it just uses an estimate. For the Tube leg of your journey you would be better using the TfL Journey Planner which can be found here. That shows that there trains every few minutes from Euston to Tottenham Hale and they take about 12 minutes to do the journey so an hour between arriving at Euston and then needing to depart Tottenham Hale is more than ample.

Thanks for clarifying the issue.

I've got a ticket FAZ-Stansted - I understand that I do not need use any ticket machines in Euston station because I do not leave the station - do you know if I am right?

Your ticket will include the tube fare. This is usually shown by a + symbol (or a Maltese Cross).

You do not need to buy a separate tube ticket.

You are allowed to leave the station at Euston if you wish.

Thanks for the tips!!

I see this sign on my ticket - "✝". Never thought to pay attention to such a small sign...

Are there any other meaningful signs on the tickets?

You are very likely to make an earlier train from Tottenham Hale. Tip: try to alight nearer the front of the train at Euston if possible.

You want to try to be in coach 5 (of 8) on the Victoria Line for a speedy exit at Tottenham Hale (if my data source is correct).

Great tip! Thanks,

Just to clarify - the first coach is in the front, so I should be in fifth from the front one?

Do you know to which platform the Euston train will arrive at Tottenham Hale?

I need platform 2 for Stansted, thus I want to know in advance if it is complicated station or not - (my flight is just before midnight) :|

If the first Victoria Line service says Seven Sisters, don't board it, and wait for the following one to Walthamstow Central.

Oh, thanks - never thought about.

I understand that Seven Sister service terminates just 1 station before Tottenham Hale, this is why I should take the "longer" service Walthamstow...(what a difficult name) Central...

I do not know why but on the picture above you can that the Euston-Tottenham Hale reported as of 29 minutes, while TFL says it is about 12... Why there is a difference??

Try Wall-tm-stow and you'll be understood! If you've managed Fazakerley ... :)

NRE uses a peculiar system for calculating journeys across London:

15 minutes (20.07-20.22) is the time allowed for changing between two NR trains at Euston, which allows for small delays, queues, crowds, heavy bags etc.

It then gives you time to get down to the tube platform, and adds something for the wait between trains (this varies according to the time of day) and for getting back to ground level at the other end.

And then you wait for the next train. Tottenham Hale NR station has only 2 platforms, you can't get lost.

If your train from Liverpool is on time, you could easily be at Tottenham Hale by 20:30.

Not the end of the world if you do - just alight at Seven Sisters and walk to the opposite platform to board the next train. Useful if a quiet-ish train arrives at an otherwise busy time.

Also, on weekdays, Stansted trains are normally formed of 8-coaches. At Tottenham Hale, turn left as you enter the platform, and walk at least half way along (stopping before you get to the 8-car stop sign). This means that you both:
-Are closer to the platform exit at Stansted (the 2nd carriage is optimal, I believe), and
-The train tends to be busier towards the rear, as this is where most passengers board at Liverpool St and Tottenham Hale (especially those who can't be bothered to walk down with their luggage)

Also, if your train happens to call there, don't make the mistake of accidentally getting off at Stansted Mountfitchet rather than Stansted Airport as confused people occasionally do to find they are stuck there for the next hour...

Thanks for detailed answers, guys! Very informative $)

I saw on the Google maps that Train and Tube stops are at different locations at Tottenham Hale - is it true or anyway there are only 2 opposite platforms for both type of service?

On leaving the Tube station you will immediately see the National Rail station on the right. It will be signposted from the Tube platforms.

You will want the platform on the side closest to the tube station exit, so do not go over the footbridge.

Thanks again! Very helpful - I try to learn in advance in order to not miss my flight from Stansted...

The only one unresolved question - on Euston station - where the Virgin train from Lime Street (Liverpool) will arrive and is it far from Victoria line service to Tottenham Hale? I mean if there is only 5 minutes between the train I want to try to catch the Tottenham anyway... (If I arrive to Stansted some 20 minutes earlier I will have a time to eat something)...

(Mmm, yep - if you have any recommendation about food (take with me or buy in train/station) for such a long journey - I would be grateful).

At Euston, whichever platform you arrive on, you head up a long slope to the station concourse. The entrance to the tube is on the far side of this; to the left are shops, to the right the main ticket office, and beyonder the tube escalators (with a big Underground sign over them IIRC) are the main exits to the street.

The whole area can be quite crowded, though by 8pm it should be quieter.

It always feels a long way down to the Victoria Line, but it's only a couple of minutes really - you want the Northbound platform.

There is a plan on the NRE site - and also one of Tottenham Hale.

Although (just to complicate things!) if you arrive on platform 8-11 at Euston there is an entrance to the Underground directly after the ticket barriers.

Whilst the above advice is useful and accurate. For the avoidance of undue worry the whole route will be well signposted throughout from platforms at Euston to get to the Underground and then onto the Victoria line and then from the Victoria line to the right platforms for your train to Stansted.
