My other half has just warned me not to worry if I happen to see the browser history and find anything about the likelihood of going to jail in cases of domestic violence.

1) I find it surprising that backontrack listens to The Archers

2) Although Helen was pushed to the limit, there was no need to keep stabbing him again and again after the first or second time - I suspect she's going to be Sectioned

Have you been following the line this script has been taken over a period of time? I usually listen to the omnibus edition on Sunday from 1000 to 1115.

It has been an insidious on-going process where to make matters even worse, he brought his mother along for a while to aid his vile plan of mental cruelty. The child is only about five, but Rob and his mother visited the boarding school that he attended as a child to see if the school would take him earlier, but of course, no mention was made of this to Helen but the child was distraught and accused Helen of wanting him to be sent away.

Kirsty had tried for weeks to get Helen to see sense, but such was her condition and frame of mind, she refused to take heed of the warnings. Rob did his best to keep Kirsty away from Helen.

There was also the matter where both Rob and his mother were insistant upon a home birth rather that one in hospital that she wanted, especially after the difficult time she had when Henry was born.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Excillent, about time an archers discussion thread got started here.

I would echo the words of Paul above and agree totally with them.

As to Rov, good riddance to bad rubbish, well done Helen and the nations behind you.

All soap operas turn into Brookside eventually.

"Won't somebody please think of the Herefords !!"

Brookside, set in an urban scenario, ran for a period of 21 years from 1982 to 2003.

The Archers (after the 1950 trial broadcast) has been running from 1951 and is still going strong 65 years later and of course is set in a farming community. This programme has the part of the interfering pompous busybody Lynda Snell, who many regulars would wonder why it was not her who had been murdered.

I believe Brookside was the pioneer of heavy soap opera violence with the body under the patio.

Anyhow, I ditched the Archers in favour of Steve Wrights Sunday Love Songs about two years ago and haven't looked back.

I suspect that mow Mr OConner is going it may well improve somewhat. He was an attempt to get younger foalk listening and regardless of if hes managed it or not hes alionated many loyal listeners

To be fair, I was never really that loyal a listener. I only really liked the Grundy's

I think it is a brave story line for a serial like the Archers to run. The character clearly a nasty piece of work who seems to take pleasure in cruelty and the exploration of how that plays out on his victim and the consequences of that abuse are worthy of exploration.

I feel sorry for the voice actor, Timothy Watson. He's been hated on on social media because of voicing such a horrible person as Rob, and he said in 2015 that "I have now removed all social media from my house because some of the things people said were quite awful. […] The strength of feeling took me by surprise. And then it starts to impact on your own personal life. I would rather not see it."

All I know about the Archers is that the church (?) roof is something like 100m tall due to how long someone screamed after falling off it.

I think Henry did it and Helen is covering-up for him. Either that or Peggy is the one that is behind it all, and was afraid that it would be revealed that Rob is really her son by Joe Grundy after a passionate night in the cider shed.

I remember Nelson Gabriel, who sounded a little like the late Willie Rushton.

(The smell of Sunday lunch cooking as a child comes rushing back to mind).

How many on this thread remember Walter Gabriel from many years ago with his very unusual voice?

Ah, me old beauty!! And how about his son Nelson? Now there was a real villain, rather than these pantomime Eastender types that infest the show now.
