London Bridge to Waterloo on the Jubilee Line

Hi there,

I'm led to believe that using this as an extension of a national rail journey (since we can't do Waterloo east to London bridge atm) incurs no extra costs and this is backed up by my experience in general but I've seen some odd things on my oyster history this week so I wonder if anyone can rationalise.

I've been travelling from Queenstown Road to London Bridge via Waterloo. Heading out in the evening peak and returning home late.

The outward journey (into London) has cost me £1.45 and the return journey costs £1.60 (on more than one day)

I don't want any money back, I'm just intrigued as to how this all works. I do have a 16-25 railcard added on to my Oyster FYI.

Firstly I don't think I got charged a peak fare on the way in despite travelling before 7pm (and after 5), and secondly if I wasn't charged a peak fare then why was the return journey more, shouldn't it be the same?

Presumably it's something to do how the jubilee extension fare is issued. Any insight into this would be grand!

Edit: As a second look it seems like I'm being charged an off peak 16-25 discounted NR zones 2-1 fare on the way in and an off peak 16-25 discounted tube z1 fare on the way back, but the question as to why the journey into London isn't peak or why the return journey is class is a tube journey when it shouldn't be still stands.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the way Oyster works. When you touch out at Waterloo LU you have only made a zone 1 tube journey and that is what it deducts from your card. When you touch out at Queenstown Road it wants to charge you a zone 1-2 NR journey but it can't because the higher fare has already been deducted. It is only a problem with zone 1-2 journeys as any further out and the NR fare exceeds the partial LU fare.

When you go the other way you are charged a NR zone 1-2 journey on touch out at Waterloo NR and this doesn't change when you later touch out at London Bridge LU.

Ah thanks. I'll cope with the 15p surcharge for now. What is the peak time rule though I started and ended my journey after 5 and before 7pm and it was charged as off peak still?

Any journey starting outside zone 1 and ending in zone 1 is charged off-peak during the afternoon peak period.
