Class 56 re-engine

There have been various reports of new main engines for the Class 56. Does anyone know which engines is are being considered?

If I remember correctly UKRL have been talking to four engine suppliers about the possibility of a Stage 3a engine to put into the 56s, I don't believe that any names were mentioned though

Why keep the original engine? UKRL are not a heritage operator! They want to create a freight loco akin to a 73/9, rather than a 57/0, ie a brand new power unit as part of the refurb.

56 303 has a job tomorrow tugging 50 031 to kiddy. Theres often a 56 or two floating around the NE on engineers or coal trips or having a swanee up the Weardale...

Because they are accomplishing the roll out of heritage stock in what looks like a brand new loco. They are a small team, they are British... Just proud of them really. Hope they do well, regardless of if the engine is new or old.

I hope they build and become "Brush" of the 2000's.

There's seven in service with Colas, three with British American Rail Services (plus one owned by Class 56 Locomotives being used by them) and at least two have been re-energised with Leicester based UK Rail Leasing, with more to follow I think.

I am more impressed that they have found a gap in the market and have exploited it AND seem to be making it pay. That and turning redundant assets into something useful. That they are "heritage" units is beside the point. They would have done equally well by re importing 66's from Poland and putting them to use.

they wont. They have a specific niche market and are exploiting that well.

Acton Works is rolling out life extended Battery Locomotives that have been rebuilt to the point of looking new, as above. They're also British, as above. They're a relatively small team, as above.

The thread is to do with life extending or rebuilding what could be classed as heritage locomotives. Acton Works (TMU) is doing exactly this. Hence, I was enqueuing as to if the above poster would also regard Acton Works in his criteria as defined.
