Wanted to ask about some WCML locations for spotting, where is the best place to photograph and take pictures? I'm guessing Queens Park (London) has no decent platforms on the WCML? If not then is Wembley Central any good?

Thanks,
Leo

Berkhamsted is great for 390s with the high-speed reverse double curve that it's in the middle of.

Berkhamsted is great for 390s with the high-speed reverse double curve that it's in the middle of.

As mentioned by rebmcr Berkhamsted is a great location for photos. It's worth knowing that most stations south of Milton Keynes now have the fast line platforms fenced off so you'd struggle to get decent photos of Pendolinos if that's the sort of thing you're after.

The mainline platforms at Queen's Park are inaccessible, and Wembley Central's are locked until a few minutes before the (hourly!) train arrives with passengers being held in the ticket hall.

Bushey has nice open platforms with views across the slow, fast and DC lines and is fairly quiet off peak so there won't be many people around. Cheddington is also a popular spot.

Queens Park is locked down and you will not get there, Wembley Central staff lock the platforms up inbetween departures. If you want that end of the line, South Kenton has good views across to the WCML lines from the island platform.

Best to splash out and go a bit further up as the quieter stations north of Watford are better. A very popular one is Cheddington even though it only has 1tph so you have to spend at least an hour there!

Cheddington, in the middle of nowhere, only one an hour stopping so low chance of being bowled and 125mph line speeds

Cheddington I already know of, been spotting there for years now and it's my favourite spot to trainspot in the UK from where I have been so far. Would like to try some different spots, is there any decent stations south of Watford with a good view of the slow lines? For freight and ROG moves etc... Is Watford Junction itself any good?

It is. Staff are spotter friendly too as long as you behave yourself.

Thanks for everyone's friendly input, I have come to the conclusion after receiving a lot of friendly advice on here and also after checking YouTube, that I may try Bushey tomorrow, just to see what I can get if the weather looks good. I shall report on how it goes.

Bear in mind Bushey is TFL and prone to overexcited staff!
