worried about something going wrong. Intended TOC Virgin Trains East Coast. Intended journey London King's Cross- Leeds.
Have iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2. Although the iPad does have a number, the SIM is a data-only SIM. Cannot make/receive calls or texts.

Personally I'd stay clear of m-tickets at the moment. Less flexibility for passengers for starters.

Not worth it imo. The loss of rights to excess/change and the need to have a charged device at all times can prove problematic.

Could you care to explain the reduced flexibility and loss of rights you refer to?

With an Advance ticket printed on paper it can be excessed to a walk on ticket up to to the time of travel. This isn't possible with an m ticket (VTEC's website says that changes can be made but only through their website).

Are M tickets for walk on fares (VTEC's website says they are available for 'all ticketing options between Edinburgh and Peterborough') available for use on other TOC services (eg. XC, TPE, EMT etc.)?

My understanding is that it is possible to excess m-tickets at a ticket office as long as they are walk-up ticket types, and that availability on other TOCs is identical to the equivalent paper tickets.

Inter-available? Like The Key is(n't) between Stevenage and London?

I'd love to see the reaction of an XC guard when a VTEC app containing an inter-available m ticket is shown.

How does break of journey work on a walk up m ticket?

What, "cheers mate"?

It's interavailable - the clue's in the name. Interavailable walk up tickets, regular or m-, can be used on any TOC, subject to any restrictions shown on the ticket (eg XC only).

They've been used on Northern ,TPE,XC and VTEC in the North East for nearly a year. Each taking tickets on the relevant app to where the ticket was bought from.

The only time I would ever consider using an m-ticket is if I was getting an Advance from a station from which it was not possible to collect the ticket from beforehand and it was not possible to receive/collect the ticket beforehand from elsewhere.

Blood boiling now about how Merseyrail continue to get away with not offering TOD from their stations which have TVMs. They've proven they can do it at Liverpool South Parkway so why must the rest of their network be so backward!

I have used them on EC (off peak) and TPE (advance).

They never work the gates.

No explanation as to how the break of journey works. EC customer service says BoJ must be completed on the same day. Is that true?? I thought it was within the validity of the ticket. I am querying it as that's how I read the national conditions.

VTEC gates have just had an update in the last week so they should all work , nor conditions are any different to paper tickets as far as I know
