Ticket did not print!

Hi there,

Last week I paid for some train tickets online and collected them from my local train station. This is the first time I've done some thing like this. It was meant to be 2 adult tickets. The machine printed only 2 tickets so I immediately put them in my purse and didn't bother checking them. I assumed they were the 2 tickets. However, I just checked now and one of them is the sales receipt and the other one is the actual ticket! Which means one ticket did not print!!

I am meant to be leaving on Saturday and panicking because we're supposed to be running a marathon on Sunday. I will be going to my local station tomorrow but I fear they might say I should have come earlier but I only found out today! I really don't want to pay for another ticket because last minute tickets are so expensive. I still have the e-mail so what should I do?

Thanks if anyone has any advice. This is such a nightmare to find out about just now, honestly I want to cry.

What station did you collect the tickets from? Some machines print the collection receipt first so it is entirely possible that your other ticket did print. You just didn't wait for it to print before leaving. Were you in a rush that day? Did the screen tell you to collect your tickets? That message only flashes up when all coupons are printed.

If there were an error during the printing process, the system would show it as an error. However if all tickets were printed then they could not be printed again, and officially speaking you would have to purchase replacement tickets. Some staff may be willing to endorse some sort of receipt to allow travel but this is strictly down to discretion and is not an entitlement. This is also much more likely if the matter was reported to them at the time, rather than a few days later.

You may have to put this down to experience as purchasing a replacement ticket is a distinct (and very real) possibility.

Marathon on Sunday? Brighton?

Last time something like this happened to me from a Southern machine (machine said 3 tickets, I collected three tickets, didn't realise I didn't have the return part but did have someone else's unrelated return ticket until I was on the out journey) the gentleman at the excess fares window at Victoria reissued the return for me as a zero excess.

Hi guys!

Problem sorted! Thanks for the responses. Went this morning to local station, they still had the ticket! They said it probably printed later and how it sometimes happens. I had to try two machines last week before the last one would print.

Yep Brighton marathon. :)

Good stuff :)

And good luck tomorrow, bring an old hoodie to keep warm at the start; it looks like being bright but cold tommorrow.
