First Utility Super League

St Helens 32...Salford Red Devils 12

As in the earlier reverse fixture, St Helens total overwhelmed Salford Red Devils in the first half of the match, that saw the score of 24-0. Tom Makinson scored no less than 20 of the St Helens points. This result sees St Helens at the top of the table.

Salford Red Devils, who started the season quite well, now have hit a very bad run of form which now sees them as low as 11th place in the league.

In what has been a most remarkable season for them, Leigh Centurions defeated Dewsbury Rams 40-24 to gain their second successive Championship title and were undefeated in all their home games this season. They even defeated two Super League teams in their run in the Challenge Cup this season.

They will now go into the qualifiers for next season's Super League, where the bottom four clubs in the Super League and the top four clubs in the Championship will be in a pool to decide matters.

Challenge Cup Final

Leeds Rhinos 50...Hull Kingston Rovers 0

In a well-coordinated display, Leeds Rhinos totally outclassed Hull K R in all aspects of the game in a match that revealed the very wide gulf between these two sides. Tom Briscoe scored five tries, including one that began with fielding a high kick by Hull K R on his own try line, then running the length of the field to score a superb try. A deserved winner of the Lance Todd trophy.

Nice to see one club in Oldham doing well as Oldham Roughyeds won Kingstone Press League One shields after that win, they now face Keighley Cougars in Promotion final to see who go to Kingstone Press Championship, really hope Oldham can do it as they miss out on promotion so many times over years.

Super 8s...Qualifiers

Salford Red Devils 53....Sheffield Eagles 34

Just been listening to the second half on Radio Manchester and it needed a much better second half performance by Salford Red Devils to finally open a sizable points gap over their Championship opponents.

Oldham Roughyeds 31-20 Keighley Cougars

Oldham Roughyeds have been promoted to Kingstone Press Championship and also end up champions of Kingstone Press League One division :D

Very happy for Oldham Roughyeds going up and like I mention last week it nice to see one Oldham club doing well knowing it not football team.

I believe Oldham Roughyeds will now have to found somewhere to play there home game of 2016 season as I believe current home ground Whitebank Stadium wouldn't be allowed to use in Championship but do believe Curzon Ashton football ground could be one place that Roughyeds may play they home games or even FC United new ground in Moston, I believe Oldham Athletic wouldn't allowed them back due to loan issue they had with Roughyeds back in 2010 or 2011.

Super 8's...Qualifiers

Widnes Vikings 10....Salford Red Devils 24

This win an a hard-fought away match gave Salford Red Devils the points they needed to retain their Super League status for next season.

Bradford Bulls 18...Halifax 52

In a match that Bradford were widely expected to win easily in their hope of regaining their Super League status, with Halifax only winning one of the six qualifiers matches played, matters were even up to half-time with Bradford leading 18-16, but an amazing Halifax second-half performance meant they scored no less than 36 unanswered points. This means the Bradford Bulls final match is going to be far more significant now.

The Qualifiers saw the Million Pound Match needing to decide whether Wakefield Wildcats would retain their Premier League status, despite losing no less than 20 of the 23 Super League matches played or would Bradford Bulls take their place.

In a hard fought match with Premier League status the prize to the winners, it was Wakefield Wildcats who won by 24-16 and this retained their Super League status for next season.

International Friendly

England 84...France 4

In this very one-sided warm-up match to prepare for the International Series against New Zealand, England ran in no less than 15 tries.

International Series - First Test

England 26....New Zealand 12

As expected, New Zealand applied early pressure and scored two tries, one each for Harris and Moha, to take a 10-0 lead but then England responded with two tries, one each for Hodgson and Ferres, with half-time seeing the score at 12-12.

In the second half, Ferres scored his second try and O'Loughlin scored a late try, leaving England one up in the three match series.

Sad news coming through today that RFL referee Chris Leatherbarrow has passed away aged 26. Condolences to his friends and family at this difficult time.

Oldham Roughyeds 0-22 London Broncos

Oldham first game in Kingstone Press Championship ended in defeat and sadly didn't even get on score sheet.

Quote #97 - Oldham Roughyeds will play they home matches at Stalybridge football ground as Oldham Athletic didn't allowed Roughyeds to use they grounds and to be honest it probably right decision given Latics pitch isn't in great shape at this current moment.

First Utility Super League

Salford Red Devils 44....St Helens 10

In one of the most unexpected results for many a year, Salford attacked from the start and kept up the pressure up at half-time, they were leading 32-6. They consolidated in the second half and finished by scoring no less than eight tries.

Leigh was too good for Oldham and I see it was Leigh first win of season.

First Utility Super League

Salford Red Devils 28....Widnes Vikings 20

The visit of undefeated top-of-the-table Widnes promised to test Salford's recent revival, but Salford again put all they had into a strong first-half performance, which saw them leading 22-10 at half time then they consolidated in the second half.

Salford outscored Widnes by five tries to four and this result takes Salford to fourth place in the league.

what was all this about: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/35914889

players fighting with the crowd? Imagine the wailing and wiblbing if that had been at a football match

Something to do with a flare being thrown, and the players going in to protect their wives/girlfriends and children.

Interestingly there were no police at the match - just stewards. Given also that alcohol is allowed in the stands, I wonder how many spectators were under the influence?

So what would be the response had footballers gone into the crowd to protect their wives and family? My point is that footballers would have been pilloried in the press with calls for returns to hanging and birching and national service etc etc. Odd that this seems to have passed without comment.

BTW - i think the players reaction to perfectly natural. They saw what looked like a issue developing and went to try and assist their families. I am not sure they should have done so though.

What a victory for Oldham Roughyeds in Challenge Cup.

Hull KR 22-36 Oldham Roughyeds

Oldham have knock out Super League and last year finalists Hull KR to reach last 16 of Challenge Cup, amazing victory for Roughyeds and I hope they can get one of big teams away from home in next round.

Truly one more result for the annals of great Challenge Cup victories of underdogs over top level teams.

Obviously aware of the Oldham shock win in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup away to Hull KR yesterday, Salford Red Devils made the away trip today to Hunslet Hawks, with a warning.

Hunslet Hawks 14...Salford Red Devils 50

Salford scored three tries in the first ten minutes and outscored Hunslet by nine tries to three.
