Hi I'm due to start my conductor training in Leeds in June and whilst on training il be commuting via train. I was just wondering how soon you get your travel pass?
Is it in your first week or is it a case of paying to travel until you qualify and start working properly?
Thanks

I'm starting next week with a different company, and on my contract and welcome letter, its says my owns Toc,s card will be sent out within 2 weeks of starting. I believe, but don't quote me, that you should get a tempory pass or authority to travel, to allow you to travel before getting your pass.

I had no fewer than three different passes sent by my TOC almost as soon as I'd sent my signed contract back!

It probably depends on who is dealing with your pass(es) and how many other people's they've got to prepare.

Not exactly the definite answer you want, of course...!

Providing you've sent a photo when requested you should have your staff ID card sent to you before you start.

This is the normal process at most TOCs. You'll either get a complimentary pass on a temporary basis, or a letter giving authority to travel for a certain duration.

Your normal passes should arrive fairly promptly, though the "Priv" card (giving 75% off fares across all TOCs) usually arrives later - depending on the company between one and six months!

You shouldn't be paying prices like that ever again all being well.

Welcome to the railway, and enjoy your training - trust me, it's hard work but worth it in the long run!
