They are still working all routes, but there's only about 20 daily diagrams now - although you won't have to wait long for one to turn up.

No final date had yet been set, although August/September/October is likely.

With the adjustments to stabling arrangements from the new timetable on 15 May it could be feasible to operate the whole of the District/Circle/H&C with the S7s already in London, although no spares (except D Stock) or trains for routine maintenance would be provided.

All S Stock (S7 & S8) are required to workback to Derby starting in July/August, with 3-4 away at any one time, so cover must be kept for these until more trains are delivered, currently 23 trains outstanding.

Will there be any sort of farewell rail tour, to mark the last ever (when it happens) old surface stock train?

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
Returning to Works for mods? Out of interest what work will be done? Thanks all for replies, heard reports of a dwindling number of D stock working so wondered how urgently I should be trying to get my final fix which if you live in scotland needs planning esp if you want to fly

High Street Kensington to Baker Street and the Hammersmith branch.

Reliable source tells me D78s can run across all of the above. Too long for some platforms, but that's not an issue on a rail tour. Fits all the relevant signalling berths since the S7 enabling works.

Can D stock run on absolutely any section of the Met, H&C, District and Circle lines?

Certainly not in passenger service.
Last year a train was sent to Amersham siding for storage and was reformed from an eastbound District train at Tower Hill and then run empty to Amersham via Wembley Park and fast Line.

Would a rail tour be able to get any sort of special dispensation?

Only as single units though. Coupled units would foul the depot entrance at Hammersmith.

Not sure where you get that idea from. How do you think Hammersmith copes with the longer-than-6-cars-of-D-stock S7s?

D stock, in full 6 car formation, can go anywhere on the Met/C&H/District except platforms 1 & 4 at Aldgate and platform 3 at Chalfont & Latimer. They can also do Acton Town - Northfields/Rayners Lane on the Picc.

While waiting for a train at Westminster this evening, I saw about 5 in a row. 2 going Westbound, 3 going eastbound. As it's warm I was waiting for an S stock, but after sitting watching 3 D stocks go past I gave up. I think this was about 15:45ish.

For my commute it's really random, I can have a week of not seeing a D stock for my journey. But then have another week where it's nothing but D stock.

They're down to 25 in traffic as of this week, with one being withdrawn per week. I had a meeting with a 4LM guy about this the other day, and he says that when they're down to 5 or so they'll all be removed, so that will be roughly 4-5 months. I don't remember the exact date they gave offhand.

Will there be special headboards attached to the last 5 on their final day in service?

19 trains remain available for service.

One train departs London each week.
Final withdrawal is still looking like end of September.
