Just an observation, I know I'm a bit behind in the mashinations of the modern railway, but I was travelling between Nuneaton and Peterborough (&rtn.) the other Saturday (16/4) and counted six Freightliner trains on the route, as well as other freight stuff. I was genuinely surprised and pleased to see that amount of freight on this line especially on a Saturday. When I worked at Petfoods on the dogpoo expresses all I ever saw was the Redlands and CCE stuff. Those class 70s can drag an awful lot of boxes. I take it they were all coming from and going to Felixtowe? Or was there some sort of diversion on that day? Good to see anyway.

GEML tends to get blocked on weekends for engineering work. Diversions via the ECML as a result.

Freight that may travel via the GEML, and through London and up the WCML may travel through Peterborough when the GEML is shut?

Yes - not just that day, but every Saturday for a couple of months;
the trains have now reverted to running via the WCML, although there
are a couple of intermodal trains which are booked to run 'cross country'
on Saturdays even when the GEML is open.
