Hi,
Flying in to Stansted airport on 26 July 2016 and wanting cheap/quickish trip to Coventry (one way only). Details are as follows:

2 x adults (1 x 16-25 railcard) and 1 x 3yr old child
Arrive Stansted at 1250.

So far have found the following single ADVANCE ticket for total cost of £50.65:
1400 Stansted to Tottenham Hale on Abellio Greater Anglia (arr 1433)
1438 London underground to Euston on Victoria line (arr 1502)
1523 Euston to Coventry on Virgin trains (arr 1622)

Also, if there is a delay or we miss one of the connections, is an ADVANCE ticket still valid for later trains as long as we made the first train at Stansted at 1400? From looking at the advice elsewhere on the forum it seems to me that it is.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, if there is a delay to your journey that is the fault of the railway, then your tickets will be honoured on the next service. If you miss any of the trains and it's your own fault, then you'd have to buy new tickets.

I've no idea about fares etc, and its probably a touch longer journey, but if it were me, I'd get the XC service from Stansted to Birmingham New Street via Cambridge and change either at Brum, or depending on your onward travel arrangements, get off at Leicester or Nuneaton/Coleshill P'kway. Bit simpler and you avoid London and the underground which for me is always a bonus.

The 14.15 departure from Stansted Airport has first class advances for just £1.50 more than standard on the 14.00.

Also might be worth investing in a Two Together Railcard ??

That's funny; I see avoiding packed, short-formed CrossCountry trains a bonus

The original question has been answered but just to add that if you may take "appropriate" connecting trains, so if you arrive in time to take an earlier train, you may do so. And if you did miss the 14:00, although you'd not be covered in the event of any subsequent delay between Stansted and Euston, in practice you would still be likely to make the train from Euston if you took the 14:15 from Stansted.

The journey time on the Victoria Line is scheduled to be 12 minutes. Obviously time has to be allowed in case of delays, a gap in service, and time to get to & from the deep level tube platforms, hence the itinerary allowing 50 minutes overall to get between National Rail trains.

I agree! some of those 2 car 170's sure are packed out at SSD! I'd recommend first class upgrade on Stansted Express, its really nice and you get some free stuff off the cart as it comes through.

Of course, Stansted being the first station in the journey means you get the first pick of seats, so not really an issue here (and the 1327 or 1427 from Stansted won't be *that* busy...)

Mind you, the run to Coventry via XC on Nuneaton is fairly dreary, one can get there much quicker via Euston, and advance fares are normally cheaper this way. Don't think the connection works out very well at Nuneaton via XC either...
