Hi all,
In the forums opinion is there likely to be an intake in the west region in the near future?
I am really keen to join GWR (my only real option in Devon!) but would be willing to relocate in the short/medium term to secure a position.
Is there anyone who knows what the general flow of driver transfers is? What I mean is do Eastern region drivers generally transfer down here or is it the other way?
Lots of questions I know but thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what standards they require for the Driver assessments, is it industry pass or enhanced for GWR

Just to let you all know, this vacancy has been taken down already!

I have heard through the grapevine exactly what WishfulThinker has already said.

Can't believe it's closed already, started filling it out during the day, was just about to finish it and it tells me no more vacancies are being accepted. Gutted!! Good luck to all that's applied

Trust me when I say that you won't be as disappointed as the people who were booted out of the same talent pool only last week.

They booted you out? Sorry to hear that mate, did they give any explanation as to why?

Does anyone know how many people they keep in the talent pool?

Because since I passed everything my circumstances might be very different to when I passed everything. Well how about you ask or check to see what's changed before coming out with some rubbish reason?? All that's changed is that I'm now 2 years older than when I applied.
If the jobs are going to redundant freight drivers just say that.

Thanks, thats a great help!

Oxoneil, that really stinks, I have been trawling through the previous thread on GWR recruitment for days now, it doesn't paint a great picture to put it mildly, it will be very interesting to see if this intake get anywhere.

Funnily enough, it did seem to allow application submissions once the vacancy was taken down so long as the application was started, access to the first test was provided too.

I just hope that they consider the later applications. Feel sorry for the folk in the original talent pool though, not ideal at all and I wish you all the best of luck in finding a role.

Yeah, it came and went within a couple of days. They usually close the intake as soon as they reach the maximum capacity of applications.

I just received an interview invitation from GWR following my application. Pretty excited, I know it's only the talent pool but it's a step in the right direction.

Yeah I also noticed this, I actually received an email saying my application was incomplete. Sure enough logged on and it allowed me to finish it off along with the 18 questions. How long do you have to wait until you get another email telling you about the second test?

If you have been successful in the two on line tests you have completed then you will probably be required to complete a telephone interview next then if you progress from that it will be Stage 1 tests, stage 2 tests including MMI. After this its a drivers manager interview then a medical then if you are very lucky an offer of employment.
if you read the thread at the top of the recruitment page on the forum you will find the answers to all of the questions flying around your head as a lot if people have asked them previously. Have a look at the other FGW trainee driver thread this is full of good information from others who have experienced the recruitment process with GWR. Be patient it is a long process that for a lot of people ends in disappointment, however, there are plenty of candidates that are successful and become drivers. Good luck

Hi, does anybody know the ball park response period following the numbers/letters test to see if you are through to the phone interview stage with FGW? I completed the 18 questions on Thursday evening and had an invite to the second test about an hour later which I completed straight away.

Also, does anybody know if 3 points on your driving licence are detrimental to the application?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for replying. I did think it strange when I saw the internal advert recently, which mentioned recruiting for the talent pool, knowing that there were lots of people already waiting! A harsh and cautionary tale for my colleagues who have thrown their hat in the ring - don't count your chickens etc etc if you do pass the DM interview!

Just had a phone interview this afternoon and got an e-mail 15 minutes later saying I passed :).

Hi does anyone know what is it about the online assessment for the gwr please. Thanks

The first online test is competency based questions which are scenarios a train driver would potentially be in. E.g. Kids are playing near the line, what do you do? And then you get 3 options for an answer.

The second test is a memory based test. It shows you a sequence of letters, then asks you to pick out the same pattern in a choice of 5/6 options. The sequences get longer and the time lessens as the test progresses. Definitely need a good mouse to do it.
