I have, over the years, on my travels, seen a lot of railway stations which have obviously been lovingly worked on with the planting of flowers, plants and trees, as well as historical information about the station and location, and often a poster advertising "Friends of X Station".

This is presumably a community project run through the Station Adoption/ACoRP, which I think is a great idea - and it is fantastic to see a station, particularly a rural one, with planted flower beds, etc. Similarly, it looks sad to see a station which literally has nothing on it apart from perhaps a bench and a shelter (if you are lucky).

Has, or is, anyone been involved with an adopted station? I'd be interested to know about what you do and what is involved.

Caersws Station seems to have been re-adopted recently, and they seem to keep the rose garden tidy and clear of weeds and generally keep the whole place clean and tidy. There were people working there yesterday evening.

All Northern station adopters have been scrapped with effect from the end of June, I believe.

Northern are now focussing on creating more community rail groups instead of having individuals looking after the stations.

I for one never got on with the adopter at the station I used to work at but I have since met others and they do a tremendous job.

Good luck with it - hope it is successful, and goes well for you. Would love to see any website, blog, FB page, etc you have/create for it.

Thank you, crispy1978... I shall get around to that when I have the time. Right now, i am balancing a stressful personal life as well as looking at maybe getting involved with a court case in the USA

A community group presumably would be a preferable option for them I assume, but if one can't be found, surely a person on their own is better than nothing. I bet there will be some people who have been adopting the station for years on their own, and now to be told they have to have others involved could well put noses out of joint, which personally I think is a little sad.

Friends of Batley Station have today completed work on a new mural and other improvement works. Looks much smarter now. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=475644809301601&id=278904498975634

Have seen Batley a few times, always one which impresses me.

From Hull !? Hardly local! I wish you luck all the sane though I think a demolitions contractor is more in order than a station adopter in it's present state!

I love adopted stations with decent groups. The Derby to Crewe line and Nottingham to Skegness in particular (but by no means exclusively) have both got some really active local people who go a long way to making their railway a better place.

I love working around community rail partnerships, it starts to feel a lot more friendly and personal again.

Rolling up at Carlton for example to a good morning and a copy of his latest (typed!) newsletter from Tony, the chap who looks it and Netherfield with another gent, is brilliant. Same as playing with the Skegness station mascot Rupert the beagle, whose owner comes down to help with all sorts and can often be found loading the HST powercars up with luggage or cleaning rubbish off the trains in summer.

All power to them all.
