I'm wanting to attempt the following this week.

Wigan - Penrith
Penrith - Langwathby (walk or bus)
Langwathby - Bradford FS
Bradford Interchange - Huddersfield
Huddersfield - Wigan

or the same in reverse.

I've a 16-25 railcard. I'm looking at a day return unless someone thinks it impossible or I'll need to leave at silly o'clock in the morning...

What fare should I ask for to cover this?

Thanks in advance. :)

Langwathby-Appleby is still RRB, does this matter to you?
And theres a day return from BDQ on the S and C for £10...

I'll entertain an RRB for one stop and Langwathby is more strategic than Appleby. However, for the purpose of just going on the S&C, maybe it could be less stressful to just get a return to Appleby via Leeds and go there and back in both directions.

NRE isn't giving me the numbers I'd like to see considering I made good use of a West Mids Day Ranger the other day so I'll likely combine your suggestion with a Wigan - Bradford return unless there are better suggestions like yours.

You might also want to look up the North West Round Robbin on National Rail. Although I believe you would have to get a ticket to get you between Wigan and Preston (that said I have had one accepted past Preston before).

Penrith to Langwathby might well be a problem depending on which day you visit. All the services I can see are run by Fellrunner on an out-and-back basis to connect outlying villages with Penrith for shopping once weekly. Even if the times suit (most return to Langwathby by various circuitous routes early afternoon) there is the slight possibility that the bus will be full of passengers who came in early morning and there will not be a seat available for anyone boarding in Penrith.

The 563 from Penrith to Appleby might be a better bet, there's four a day although it's not the most scenic run along the A66. Full timetables are on the Cumbria County Council site, click on "Eden" area.

Mmmmm, well I've googled the distance and a 5 mile walk doesn't seem so bad but I'd only do it FROM Langwathby AND in decent weather which I hope continues on from today's warm weather. Has anyone done this walk?

PS: What time should I allocate to walk between the two Bradford stations' platforms?

I've walked it in a little under 10 (train to train). So I would always try to allow 20.
