What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Could not find any similar threads so apologies if already covered elsewhere.

As the Class 455s were (I believe) built in 1982, they would have 6 years remaining of their operational lifespan before replacement. This is assuming that they were designed to have an operational lifespan of 40 years in service.

Are there any plans to replace these in the next 6 years or so, or are they going to have a few extra years eeked out of them?

Is Class 455 replacement for both London & South Western Railway and London, Brighton, & South Coast Railway dependent upon routes transferring to Thameslink Core and Chelsea - Hackney Railway? Or TfL's desire to take over responsibility for the local all stations inner London services?

Furthermore, as the Class 455s are deemed to be the workhorses of the local all stations inner London services, would there be a similar design for a new replacement fleet (obviously built to the present day crash regulations)?

There are no replacement plans for either fleet, which is why you haven't found anything.

SWT's fleet is presently being re-tractioned to give at least 10 years life expectancy. That will almost certainly keep them in service until either Crossrail 2 starts or TfL management of the routes results in new stock.

SN's fleet is going to see less use, but there are no replacement plans. I didn't think they were affected by Thameslink though?

There is no Chelsea - Hackney Railway; it has been formally known as Crossrail 2 for a few years now.

I think the LSWR and LBSC may have up to date names as well - using the historic terminology seems unnecessary to me...

Are the new Desiros SWT are getting not essentially that kind of design?

They are, but I'd emphasise they are not intended to allow any 455s to be released from service. However they will mean SWT's 455s can potentially be kept to a more limited number of routes, probably the main suburban side rather than the Windsor side.

The 455s have very limited work on the Windsor side anyway. Just the Waterloo-Richmond-Kingston-Waterloo circular services mainly, and they will be remaining worked by 455s mainly.

The Southern 455s will live to at least the start of the next TSGN franchise. They are having their workload reduced by means of the introduction of more 377s on metro services to try and allow for higher reliability.
