I'm guessing this will be a fairly rare occurance for Scarborough unless someone knows differently and tells me otherwise.

At 14:45 yesterday, there was a train on each platform.

1: 60163 Tornado (The Scarborough Flyer)
2: EMT 222010 (service from/to St Pancras on summer Saturday's)
3: TPE 185115
4: Northern 153315 (single car - not entirely sure why that was there)
5: Northern 158909

https://flic.kr/p/GURyow shows the trains in - can't quite see Platform 4 though.

The 153 worked up with 158903 on the 09:47 Hull - Scarborough and went back at 16:25 with 158904, so presumably used for strengthening on a nice summer's day.

I was on the 1022 Liverpool to Scarborough today from Liverpool. Most of the seats in the 3 car train had been pre-booked with cards on the seats. Naturally with those that hadn't booked it was full and standing. You would think that the operator would have added another 3 cars because of the pre booking and therefore it was known to be a full train from Liverpool even at 1022am!

Very unusual! I heard mention whilst at York of Tornado heading up there, but the other information about an EMT HST being at Scarborough was clearly duff!

Where would you suggest this additional stock was to come from? What about every other TPE service that is packed to the rafters on a daily basis?

Nearly all TPE trains are wedged on a Saturday (at least at that time of day, and again in the evenings); there are nowhere near enough coaches to comfortably accommodate everyone who wants to travel at this current moment in time.

There are plans (see New TPE Train Discussion) for more stock, though I'm not convinced even that will be enough to comfortably meet all the suppressed demand.

I'm looking out for that EMT HST going to Scarborough. I hope that it happens this year.

I thought in previous years there were some York <> Scarborough shuttles in addition, on high summer Saturdays, or have I dreamt that? Can't find any this year. If weather stays is as good as this weekend has been, expect trains to be rammed every Saturday.

i am not sure there are shuttles anymore. Northern certainly don't run from York to Scarborough and I cant recall any TPE ones. Are EMT changing their Scarborough service over to HST operation?

I agree - the new trains will be great but I think they will quickly be full. Especially if services are speeded up with electrification York Manchester can be full and standing at almost anytime.

Using TPW mainly from Leeds I Find that aiming for a Hull - Manchester offers the best chance of a seat and quiet train.

No. I think Starmill is referring to the one Saturday last year where the usual 222 was replaced with an HST. There was an event on elsewhere I believe, was a one off.

EMT often send HST's to Scarborough wlthough 222's have been favoured of late. The STP-YRK service is extended to SCA during the summer. TPE do send relief shuttles to scarborough which typically run on a saturday and sunday, about 10 mins in front of the service train, or a few minutes behind if the service runs non stop to SCA. Wether they will this year with the unit constraints we have at the mo remains to be seen. I have not heared we wont be tho...

I wasnt aware TPE did that! Finding units must be fun.

I thought that ran in front of the Hull train? The bests ones are/were York starters. Nice and quiet at Leeds!

The Hull services and Leeds starters won't be quite so quiet when they start serving intermediate stops such as Batley and Mirfield next year...

That sounds like a sight to remember.

It was good to see, and good to see the station so busy - although I did think the railtour business were missing a trick by not having a stall of some description.

So often I look over the wall and there's either a TPE just landed and sometimes a Northern doing the Hull/Sheffield run waiting to go back out - or like it is for a good proportion of the day - absolutely nothing.

Of course back in the day the station used to be quiet from September-May/June, although there was the 08 there and also one never knew what a DMU might be - a BRCW or Cravens unit could turn up. Now I don't even know the last time a Pacer visted Scarborough?

Will we see something more interesting in the future? In March it was once again talked about having more (than one a week in summer) direct trains to London. Also I believe class 68s are going to run some TPE services from Liverpool-Newcastle, so maybe that is not out of the question with them being part of the TPE fleet?

I don't know exactly what this new Northern service is; I read about it in March but I don't know what service and route it is set to be?

What - attempting to tailor train accommodation to demand?! Whatever will they think of next?

Should be another busy day at the station today. There is some special (I don't know what) by West Coast coming from Sheffield, so with the St Pancras train, 1 & 2 will be occupied after 12.54.

The Yorkshire Coronation was the tour. There would have been a period today where 1-4 were all in use at the same time (unless there was something hidden away on 5 again)

This coming Saturday there is a Railway Touring company special from Liverpool to Scarborough and back and a SRPS Railtours Glenrothes to Scarborough and return special.

With the Liverpool train arriving first and departing last, presumably it will have to be stabled on the loop/siding adjacent to the old Londesborough Road station (the EMT St Pancras service will be occuping platform 2).

The two specials depart within half an hour of each other at 1532 and 1558.
