I am currently on 313058 which seems to have new brighter lighting. Does anyone know anything about this?

Perhaps a trial with LED tubes. We have a 314 and a 156 fitted currently. Look just like ordinary fluorescent tubes but are LEDs. Much whiter.

Not again.

LEDs are available in warm white, a nice welcoming colour. What is the obsession, started by fGW, of turning trains into unwelcoming, blaring, bright operating theatres?

On-train lighting should be subdued, calming, warm and welcoming - the way it was in tungsten days, which can be replicated very well using LEDs. Few of us have daylight white at home other than in working areas like kitchens - why would we want it on a train?

Quite. Tungstens in a 4SUB with brown windows - aaah! Now - mobile operating theatres!

I have a suspicion that lighting level preference will be just as personal and subjective as relative seat comfort....

Actually, I think the use of these LEDs started with a trial with London Midlands 323s fleet.

It's only one coach in a two car 156 set, the other retaining the standard flo tubes. The difference is startling and hopefully just a trial as they are far too bright and cold, cabs included.

London Midland did the same to the vestibule lights a few months ago on their 153's. Lights it up well!

The corridor lights were also treated in a similar fashion.
