On 1st and 2nd September many Euston-Chester services are extended to Bangor in connection with the No.6 festival at Portmerion, rather than last years poorly loaded shuttles from Crewe.
Perusal of RTT suggests this will result in the 05.50 Glasgow-Euston being five cars throughout and also the 09.10 and 17.10 Euston-Holyhead.

There don't appear to be any workings covered with 390s despite the fact that on Thursdays and Fridays two sets don't do anything in the mornings - on the face of it the 20.10 from Glasgow the previous evening could have been a Voyager and its' booked 390 used for the 05.50 and work the 18.57 EUS-Man.

Not sure if it's still the case, but in 2014 Virgin Trains were a sponsor for Festival No. 6 hence the preference for Bangor. There was a promotional video with scenes from at about 01'04" filmed at Euston, then on a Virgin train to Bangor. I can't see ATW doing anything unless someone else pays for it (even if they have suitably equipped spare stock).

Totally off topic and shameless plug: ;) I filmed a behind the scenes video at Portmeirion where the male voice choir featured in the YouTube promotional video above were filming on location - no trains in this bit, but watch out for the drone in use towards the end. The choir were singing along to a backing track on location but I mixed in the studio sound as used on the final version.

Another planet...
What with ? Only ERMTS fitted traction can work over the route.

you just need one of the 97's and some stock ;) One ran down the Cambrian only the other week hauling a charter.

It wont happen but it isn't THAT hard with planing.

I was assuming something fairly modest such as 4 cars instead of 2, which shouldn't be impossible. Indeed if an extra 158 could be found they could even sandwich a non ETCS fitted unit in the middle, but that's getting a bit silly.

A report on that charter from the North Wales Coast Railway website mentions that Network rail refurbished 37 (97 304 John Tiley) fitted with ERTMS signalling was used to lead the West Coast 37 on the Cambrian.

I took this picture at the start of 2016, showing 221106 with "no.6" branding.

Not quite sure how you can work out whether the 05:50 will be a single five car or not from RTT, similarily for the 09:10 and 17:10. I would be interested to know how you came by that.

A reason why it looks like trains aren't working is that they are receiving maintenance. Clearly there is less downtime on Thursdays and Fridays and (consequently) fewer spare Class 390 sets because they are worked harder - ie the 18:46 and 18:57 ThFO departures from London.

Quite simply - the set off the 06.17 Preston-Birmingham goes to Crewe not Wolverhampton, and if it was 10 through it would require 100% availability on friday as 1A76 remains from Central Rivers.
5D28 is cape so the 11.35 Chester is presumably detached off the 09.10 down (my mistake is suggesting it was 5 through) and the 19.35 Chester appears to be ECS from Bangor. That's not to mention the portions separate schedules (which I assume are for CRS purposes) being shown cancelled.
;
My point is that a 390 has to be provided for the 18.57 so unless the agreement with Alstom is that it and/or 5A24 can only be diagrammed in the afternoon why couldn't it have been used as I suggested?
