I upgraded my Samsung laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago, since then my browser, Google Chrome has been very slow, it takes ages to load my bt.com homepage, have tried Microsoft Edge and bt.com wouldn't even load. I contacted BT they ran all the checks and my speedis excellent, so the problem appears to be Windows 10, the tech guy at BT advised me to revert back to Windows 8.1 or even better Windows 7, a friend at work is having exactly the same problem as I am, he too is on BT.
Is anyone on here having the same problem, possibly with another ISP?

Connect your laptop to your modem by Ethernet cable and rjn Windows Update. Chances are your drivers aren't up to date, as SpacePhoenix said.

Are your drivers for your wifi or Ethernet up to date?

Yes, I made sure of that before I upgraded, as I had problems a few months ago when I first tried to upgrade.
It appears to be a common problem according to other forums etc.
It does seem strange that the BT technician is advising going back to W 8.1, he actually said he had the same problem when he upgraded and subsequently reverted to W7.

If you upgraded a couple of weeks ago you probably don't have long to roll back windows as the previous OS is only kept for a month
Is everything else fine apart from BT ?

The upgrade to Windows 10 effectively dumps all the drivers as far as I can tell and tries to redownload them. It doesn't always do a great job of it and uses generic rather than specific drivers unless you run another update on them

Was this matter of the drivers also raised when there was a previous thread about Windows 10?
And the solution is pretty simple. Plug in an Ethernet cable and update.

I feel people just look for an excuse to hate Windows 10, as that's the "in" thing . Personally I had no issues with my upgrade what so ever.

I think it's incredibly impressive how smoothly the majority of updates went when you consider the plethora of hardware variations and backwards compatibility dating back two decades.

On a side note at anyone who has got Windows 10 on more then one computer, can one computer act as an "update hub" which downloads all needed updates for all computers and the others goto that computer to grab their updates?

Pass - I'm not sure I read that one in full

Agreed - I don't mind Windows 10 too much - I use it at home and will soon be doing so at work too. My only bugbear is the amount of junk it comes with

I think by default it can P2P (peer to peer) by default for updates so it can use machines on the local LAN to get updates rather than having to go out to the Internet for everything. The settings are configurable in the Pro version at least to change the behaviour. I haven't tested to see whether it actually works or not

Well I'm glad I haven't "upgraded" to ten on my laptop.

I've got it on my mobile phone and already Microsoft "edge" seems incapable of refreshing pages on this forum half of the time.

Well they're not quite the same. I will agree the phone version isn't very good, Windows 10 Mobile is a total botch job. Honestly, despite being a Windows Phone user for several years, I opted to get a Nexus 6P over a 950XL as I just couldn't justify the cost of such a buggy piece of plastic crap purely because it was a Lumia.

My advice for existing (pre Windows 10) machines is to avoid Windows 10 like the plague. Obviously, machines sold with Windows 10 should run OK (or else a refund is due). There is a program that will help to avoid automatic updates, unless you wish to upgrade:

Try firefox.

Also check through your browser settings and remove all the add-ons that get installed. Clear the cache and cooooookies etc and dump the .tmp files into the recycle bin.

Does your anti virus also run in the browser ? I found that when using the "safe browser" options and "safe links" will always slow down your browser a heck of a lot.

Also check page load options. Some browsers will load as the information is received and some will only load the page once it is fully downloaded. You can tell which style you have if the page loads in a flash or if picture intense pages load a pic at a time. There is usually an option available.

Update Adobe, Shockwave, Silverlight and whatever extensions you have as that can cause loading issues too. I had to install adobe recently because windows 10 refused to print a .pdf and now every time anything with flash tried to load it will be automatically blocked by firefox by default so it causes loading issues on occasion.

Virus and spyware/malware scan as always.

Run msconfig and see what is booting up and run task manager and check the cpu/memory usage etc as you may have a program running in the background that is hogging memory.

To be honest, it works wonderfully. But it's too big and doesn't fit in my pocket which worries me. Every time I have to manoeuvre my phone it seems to bring everything else with it.

Too big.

From what I've read on Windows Central, you are lucky. I had a 1520 before, which I have kept on 8.1 as I don't really like the direction W10M went in. More Modern UI less hamburger menus would have been nice.

You can run a WSUS server at home (presumably you are asking about home use?), even without a domain, but it's unlikely to be viable/economical in a home environment.

Windows 10 supposedly includes the ability to distribute the update files within a network with minimal input from the user. Whether or not it actually works in practice is another matter.
