Hi all

If I book a advance ticket for the 17:03 Kings X - Doncaster can I take advantage of the power hour and catch the 17:33 HST? I realise this doesn't guarantee me a seat but I will be at station to ensure I am or of the first to board and find an unreserved seat or is the power hour not valid on this service or peak hours?

Thank as usual in advance or any help provided

The trains you mention bear the 'power hour' symbol in the VTEC timetable, so would appear to be fine.

"Power Hour"?
Do tell.

Phil if passenger have advance tickets for VTEC trains from Doncaster to Kings X or vice versa they are allowed to travel on any train but not guaranteed a seat a hour either side of the train in which they are booked on

To easy to call it a semi-flexible ticket then.
I'm getting old.

Perhaps "Power Hour" makes it far easier to remember how flexible it is?

It's already been mentioned that it includes tickets where there is an onward non EC connection so hopefully there won't be any anal train managers refusing to accept such tickets.

Terms and Conditions

Flexibility available on Virgin Trains Advance tickets booked for travel between Doncaster and London King’s Cross only. Booking and travel must be on a Virgin Trains service.

Promotion booking and travel period 25 April – 24 July 2016. Not valid on group bookings for over 9 people. Seat not guaranteed if travelling on different train to one booked, no other

Advance T&Cs are not affected by this added flexibility. It is the passenger’s responsibility to check times of alternative services within an hour of the original booking.

I'm booked on a train departing at 17.00 but decide to utilise the 'Power Hour' and catch the 17.59. (Times for illustration only)

If the 17.59 is cancelled, am I able to travel on the next available train, or will I have forfeit the ticket under the T&Cs and have to re-book?

It only applies to tickets specifically between Lomdon and Doncaster, and not to those with connecting journeys.

The Doncaster power hour relaxation does not purport to relate to travel that is not Doncaster-London or London-Doncaster.

In particular, if you have reservations for a connecting service, the relaxation doesn't allow you to travel on a different connecting service. So if travelling Doncaster-Kent, you could (for example) travel earlier to London and then have extra time in London before catching your booked train to Kent. Or if travelling Kent-Doncaster you could, having caught your booked Kent-London train then have extra time in London and catch a later train to Doncaster (or, if really lucky with your cross-London connections, catch an earlier train to Doncaster).

VTEC have no authority to allow you to change your connecting service on a different TOC so officially the offer only applies to London - Doncaster tickets.

In practice, if the connecting leg is unreserved, then no-one will know or care if you are travelling earlier or later than scheduled. However if you have a reservation for the connecting leg you are still required to use that train, regardless of any VTEC easement.

I'm not sure the change of connections with reservations was ever disputed.

Has this promotion ended? The link is now broken. No end date was provided and I am travelling today and was planning to use it.
