Things are abit pear shaped on the wessex routes this morning...

Cancellations to services between Havant and Haslemere
Due to a tree blocking the railway between Havant and Haslemere some lines are blocked.

A tree has fallen onto the track between Liss and Liphook. This means that no trains can run between Havant and Haslemere, in the London direction. Trains may be diverted at short notice.

Cancellations to services between Virginia Water and Weybridge
Due to lightning damaging the signalling system between Virginia Water and Weybridge all lines are blocked.

Lightning strikes overnight have damaged the signalling equipment in the Addlestone area. This means that trains that normally run between Waterloo and Weybridge via Staines are unable to run.

Cancellations to services between Surbiton and Hampton Court
Due to lightning damaging the signalling system between Surbiton and Hampton Court fewer trains are able to run on all lines.

Lightning strikes and heavy rain overnight have affected the signalling equipment in several locations on our suburban route. The worse affected area is Surbiton as there are 8 signals there that cannot be used.

Cancellations to services between Fulwell and Shepperton
Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Fulwell and Shepperton all lines are blocked.

Heavy rain overnight and through this morning has made the water levels in Fulwell Tunnel rise. The water levels have gone above the top of the rail, meaning it is not possible to run trains through the affected area at the moment.

Not good on Greater Anglia either - flooding at Manor Park.
We had very heavy rain on the east side of London last night and it's just started pouring down again.

It does sound bad up there, but just to rub it in, we have got beautiful blue sky with a little bit of white fluffy cloud down here.

They are closing the Shepperton line in a few weeks for two weeks to try to sort out the flooding problem at Fulwell which has been going on for as long as the line was first built in 1864....Infact I was going ask about that, on a SWT leaflet regarding the closure, they say the line was built for freight in 1864 and upgraded for passengers in 1901, but I don't think that can be correct, I am sure passengers were using it way before 1901, does anyone know?

Best not to travel today if you don't need to perhaps?

Wet weather does seem to be going away a bit now, it's still very humid though.

Where that rubbish is in the bottom right corner going diagonally up to the left, is that a rail under the water?

Also all lines between East Croydon and Victoria are blocked

I'm supposed to be travelling from Gomshall to London (advance ticket) this evening which will involve going that route. If Croydon to Victoria is still blocked this evening would it be permissable to travel from Ockley to Victoria which uses a different line? I'm booked on a Euston to Manchester train at 21:40 and would like to avoid missing it if possible. A folding bike will likely rule out bus services as an alternative.

Does anyone know which lines are blocked?

I was on the train at Guildford at 5.14 and after not leaving for a time, the guard told us that the signalman has said we were waiting for a train to pass through platform 5. We were on platform 6A. By 5.30 our train hadn't left and I felt we could easily have reached Woking before the other train got to platform 5. I didn't know which direction the other train was coming from.

Shortly after that a Network Rail train passed through platform 5 heading north. It wasn't showing on Real Time Trains.

As it got close to 5.37, the guard said we could go via Cobham. However as the Network Rail train had gone through I thought we'll be on our move shortly. Besides I didn't wish to rush over to platform 1. Miss that train and then m train leave straight after.

As it was, that train was diverted via Leatherhead. However as I didn't know that at the time, whose to say I wouldn't have got stuck on the Cobham line.

By 5.50 our train was cancelled due to signalling issues at Surbiton. At least I now knew why.

There was a link on National Rail Enquiries to issues in South but the disruption notice didn't mention the Surbiton. I think they have now put up a separate notice about the south west of England. However that notice isn't linked to Cobham line stations and the South disruption notice, which does link, still doesn't mention the Cobham line.

I won't report it though as staff will be very busy trying to run what trains they can.

South West Trains had something in their journey check but I initially didn't check there, just real time trains, as it was a just us waiting for a train to pass through.

It must be very stressful and busy right now for everyone trying to run trains and fix the issues. Thanks for all your hard work.

So as the next train was now the 6.24 and I couldn't be certain if it would get cancelled at any point, I got a taxi. I needed to be somewhere by 6.15. As it was, had I got the late running 6.24, I'd have got to my destination about 7.45. I actually got to my destination about 6.30.

The roads were awful with the weather but surprisingly the traffic was OK. Guess I just missed the rush hour.

I see there was three trains from Surbiton to Clapham Junction between 6 and 7, the last being 6.41 semi fast service. After that the delayed 7.41 stopping service was the next one and then the 9.11 but that is currently delayed. They are saying that a 9.31 should run but that might get indefinitely delayed as it comes from Hampton Court. There are stopping trains from Woking that were running in between but those skip Clapham Junction.

I bet it's bedlam at Surbiton today.

I magnified the photo a bit and I think:

...that if you approach from the top left of the picture you can see a 'common crossing', and just below it a running rail, alongside which is a rail with a tapered end which I'd assume is a conductor rail. The thicker black rail below that running across the middle of the shot (with plant life on the rh side edge of the photo) is therefore probably another conductor rail.

(Obviously the con rails are slightly higher, I expect someone will know the typical measurement.)

Below that in the picture there seem to be four rails, two light coloured - one ending up at the pile of floating rubbish and two darker, possibly parts of another set of points.

Looks like Code Black was declared so only travel if absolutely essential.

In the last 24 hours lightning from Portugal to near the coast of Denmark. And aint over yet. We are just starting with bad weather today. Near the railwayline Amsterdam to Utrecht some trees have "died".

If you zoom into the original picture on Network Rail's site, the station sign on the far right starts with a 'C' and has an advertising banner under it. This, coupled with the rail curvature and the architecture of the bridge, leads me to believe its Clapham Junction looking towards Croydon.

One set of tracks between Clapham Junction and Croydon is now open, but obviously struggling to handle a mix of fast and stopper services on the same rails.

The dark rails are the trap points' lead-off at the West London line junction at Clapham Junction (platforms 16 and 17). When I passed this morning the down Victoria slow was a river running into this pond from the Wandsworth Common direction! Also flooded fast lines at Wimbledon beneath the multi-storey car park over the railway.

Just one of those days. I can't believe the amount of people on Twitter blaming the TOCs. I hope these people don't vote.

Thanks for confirming that. Trap points would explain the different appearances perfectly, a pair of rails that would never see traffic

Perhaps they could announce code black at the stations. They didn't say anything at Guildford this morning at 5.10. Funny enough, when the fire hit Vauxhall there wasn't much of announcement at 5.10 but more trains were running at that point. That soon changes though.

It wasn't declared until almost 8 due to the number of problems around the network. It wasn't a Code Black this morning to start with.

Flooding from heavy rain is the gift that keeps giving. Surface water will evaporate during the day but rivers are still rising. Oh and round two of the heavy rain is just leaving the French coast and heading our direction.

Code Black also declared at London Victoria. Only travel if absolutely necessary.

OK. That's interesting. These things develop over time of course.

There were quite a few trains not running before 8am. Of course one wouldn't want to declare code black unless absolutely necessary.

We had very heavy rain on the east side of London last night and it's just started pouring down again.

AGA saying line not expected to be open at Manor Park until at least 16:00 and have tweeted another pic of flooding which looks more like Maryland with a frieght train stuck in the Down avoider between there and Stratford. Flooding earlier at Weeley. TfL Rail not running west of Ilford and some flooding but trains still running wioth delays on c2c.

Many roads in east London and Essex not much better, A12 was closed north of Colchester earlier and Ardleigh reservoir nr Colchester topping over and flooding the adjacent road.

Sometimes I think the government did franchising the way it did just so it wouldn't get slated when things go wrong/they want to do something unpopular.

As a strategy it works brilliantly!

I managed to get to work today. To get back home I might need to go via Redhill/gatwick, and buy a ticket.

CSL2 has been declared by all southern operators. Use whatever routes you can and you shouldn't have to pay extra.
