Who actually operates them? Terravision are a franchisor like National Express so don't operate the services themselves.

If you Google Terravision all sort of problems come up from Italian rival Societa Italiana Trasporti (SIT) taking court action against them for not conforming with transport regulations to selling tickets for a route that they are no longer allowed to operate and forcing passengers to change part way through on to a service provided by another operator.

I've posted the original question on Merseyside bus forum so that may return a response from someone who's not signed up on here.

Indeed, but all that has to do with Stansted, not Manchester.

This might have something to do with it

http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/item/...linkname=2644f3d1-38f3-4b3b-9a75-36fce3c61a28

Seems they have been investigated for not doing their journeys, booting passengers off and all sorts

Those problems all relate to Stansted, they lost a tender and as a result couldn't use the airport coach station anymore. They tried to keep their business going using the long-stay car park and, when Stansted airport barred their shuttle minibuses from the car park, seats on other services (CityLink, who won the tender, were the usual choice) but didn't advertise the fact on their website.

The Stansted service was marketed by Terravision but operated by contractors, mostly RATP Epsom Coaches, but I think the Manchester service is run by Terravision directly.

Indeed, but if Stansted decided to get rid of them Liverpool might decide to follow their example

Presumably the airport can control who provides coach services because the roads within the airport boundary are private, and am I being cynical to suggest the one that gets the contract is the one who pays most money to the airport?

That's what happened at both Luton and Stansted. Luton's decision was overturned because the airport were taking a cut of the revenue from the exclusive operator (and therefore had an incentive to distort competition to increase fares paid), whereas Stansted's wasn't because the airport were simply charging a flat fee to a selected number of operators.

There haven't been many issues with Terravision before they were booted out of Stansted, and the issues were related to them trying to keep their business going rather than giving it up as a bad job.

Is this CAA consultation as a result of what happened at Stansted?

https://www.caa.co.uk/Commercial-in...et-conditions-for-surface-access-to-airports/

Review of market conditions for surface access to airports

Our initial findings are that there is a variety of parties providing surface access services, but also some evidence that passengers are not always able to find the best services at the best costs to suit their needs.

We have identified some aspects that may risk undermining consumer choice and value for money.

We think that all providers and distributors of surface access services should ensure their contracts and behaviours do not infringe competition law. As a provider of some surface access facilities, airport operators also need to better demonstrate that they have considered their legal responsibilities under competition and consumer law. We suggest that airport operators develop and communicate good practice principles for access to their surface access facilities which reflect previous case-law in the sector.

Our consultation aims to gather views and further information from the aviation and surface access industries, as well as organisations representing both those industries and consumers.

The link above no longer works and the route has been removed from the home page, so presumably has totally gone. Citylink now operate between Victoria and Stansted and the Bayswater to Gatwick service also seems to have gone, so there are no more Terravsion routes left in the UK.

Only responses that has yielded is one person saying passenger loadings weren't that good and another person saying sourcing drivers to operate the service was an issue. The latter seems to be a problem in the North West generally with many operators reducing the number of routes they run or cancelling scheduled services due to staff shortages.

It was me who said Passenger loadings was not good, quite often saw the Service leave empty and out of all the times i used it only once did i have other Passengers on board, I used to use it from time to time for that reason as i liked it being quiet, Have to also say i never once had any problems from Terravision
