Hi all,

Would someone be kind enough to explain how the Class 332's on Heathrow Express are allocated to each diagram, because I haven't been able to work it out.

AFAIK there are nine 4 car units and five 5 car units, but I've seen them in service in a wide range of combinations, including 4, 5, 4+4 and 4+5, at various times. I don't believe I've ever seen a 5+5.

Is there a specific allocation with regards to peak and off-peak, weekday or weekend, or are they just sent out randomly?

You won't see 5+5. The platforms at Heathrow aren't long enough. The diagrams change daily really and does seem random.

Basically, they should be 8/9 all day until early evening when a few shorten, weekends are different.

Can't remember about Saturday's, but Sunday's are single units until mid afternoon when all the diagrams strengthen.

Obviously, this all can (and does) change daily.

Monday to Friday they are all booked to be 9 cars until the late evening then 5 cars. On Saturdays they are 5 car and Sunday morning 5 car then from about 1600 9 car. However as all the 5 cars are diagramed to be out with no spare units you will see 2 x 4 cars working on most days.

One other point is that with the ongoing Crossrail work, quite often the service is half hourly late evening and occasionally weekends, in which case the evening services stay 8/9 car and the weekend ones are as well.
