Mid to Late January Updates:

Just dropped by to say that I have just uploaded a few images of recent progress on the Forcett Coach, which just go to show that this was never going to be an easy job! The linked image shows the new and old end cills. I hope to be able to add a couple more images quite soon.

February 2012 UPDATES:

Since my last updates, at the end of January, I have been posting more images to the flickr account. I had hoped to do this in several stages; however, by few days ago I had added something in the region of forty images.
Mostly they are work related – the first two links specifically showing further work to the Forcett Coach, the third one is the Miller Fifer…..but there are a few other subjects, as well.

Spring lambs and a happy Ben – who is really improving his skills.

If you visit the ‘Sets’ index page, the *new* and *updated* markers are in the appropriate set titles, as yet I have not added markers to the images themselves – I am using the ‘date uploaded’ marker instead.

Please – feel free to paddle in my photostream, have a click or three. If you are a flickr member – you will be able add a comment or maybe even select a favourite (or several). There are some galleries as well; these have other peoples’ images…..I have added some remarks as to why I added the selected images.

Thanks for looking.

PS. We also got onto the tele – a short segment in the first episode of “Britain’s Heritage Heroes” presented by John Craven and Jules Hudson broadcast by BBC2 on 6th February 2012. It was on iplayer....

The last update posts were in February, but during March 41 images were uploaded, and another 26 images to date in April. There should be a few more in a day or three. We have been making steady progress on a number of projects, both existing and new ones. We have another, major, project in the final stages of making the arrangements – all will be made clear in very soon, and I will be putting more updates on my homepage to take account of these changes in due course.
Forcett – http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7057218157/in/set-72157627139592710/
Miller – http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7073328797/in/set-72157626203069641/
Sentinel *new* – http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/sets/72157629374808848/
The new apprentice – Ben deDog – has continued to improve and is started to develop some real character…..and he likes the sea !
Ben – http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7045061823/in/set-72157628026767272
We have also had a few “awaydays” as all work and no play makes for a stressful life…..
Coniston – http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/sets/72157629769684005/
If you visit the sets index page, the *new* and *updated* markers are in the appropriate set titles, as yet I have not added markers to the images themselves.
We also have just started our second trainee in her placement under the Engineering Heritage Skills Initiative. I will set up a new collection and sets to cover this scheme very shortly, as I need to take some specific images, and retrieve some others.
As I have mentioned before - If you would like a little light reading, try the April 2012 issue of “Old Glory” – it has an illustrated article covering the restoration of Berriman’s Chip Van for Beamish Museum by Stanegate Restorations and Replicas.
This project was included within the BBC2 Program “Brick by Brick – Rebuilding the Past” which was broadcast at 2100 yesterday. (Friday 13th April 2012), I believe it will be on i-player for a few more days.

Mid – late June 2012 UPDATES:

Since my last update, back in mid May, I have been uploading images to the flickr account. I have done this in several stages; however, by yesterday I had added somewhere in the region of forty images. I have also updated my homepage, to include the details of new projects……

The major item of interest is that the Foxfield Railway based North Staffordshire Railway Rolling Stock Restoration Trust (NSRRSRT) have commissioned Stanegate Restorations and Replicas to return NSR127 to operational condition. The trust have supplied an underframe and we will rebuild the body…..the Staffordshire Environmental Fund have provided a substantial grant towards the cost. Images uploaded so far are the delivery and some of the ‘before’ ones. More will follow as work progresses
NSR127 :http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7186934401/in/set-72157630056015073/

Most of the new images are work related – the first link specifically shows further work to the Forcett Coach, and there has been more work recently….. the next one is the Miller Fifer, showing the engine running! Followed by a shot of the Sentinel cab (again, this is further advanced than seen here) and there are a few other subjects, as well.
Forcett :http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7261970594/in/set-72157627139592710/
Miller :http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7263766950/in/set-72157626203069641/
And another one of Ben, doing his best as morale and entertainments manager!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/60884630@N06/7372153092/in/set-72157628026767272/
I’m hoping to be able to upload quite a few more images very soon – so please check back…….
If you visit the ‘Sets’ index page, the *new* and *updated* markers are in the appropriate set titles, as yet I have not added markers to the images themselves – I am using the ‘date uploaded’ marker instead.

Please – feel free to plodge in my photostream, you can click on things that interest you to get the ‘on black’ version, or for a larger image. If you are a flickr member – you will be able add a comment or maybe even select a favourite (or several). There are several galleries as well; these have other peoples’ images…..I have posted remarks as to why I added the selected images. The most recent are of “William Riley” in the Jubilee Thames Pagaent.

Thanks for looking.

Many, Many Apologies for the lack of recent (!) updates – the last one was months ago !

I’ll not bore you with the details of the reasons; it is more than a bit complicated. Suffice it to say that posting updates has not been that high a priority, although I’ve continued to add images to the flickr photostream, showing work in progress on various projects as well as a range of other subjects.

July 2013 Updates :

Since my last main update for April – and the return of the Forcett carriage to Beamish Museum - things have changed quite a bit. After the “upgrade and improvements” at the previous image hosting website on 20th May 2013, I decamped to ipernity, transplanted my images into a new *club* account and changed the link in my signature. Since then I have uploaded somewhere in the region of 100 images covering the May to July period.
Also I needed to update my homepage, to include the details of a couple of new projects……one of which had already been completed, so went straight into the past projects page. Further new work to be added……

Project reports :-
Considerable progress has continued on NSR127 : the structural work has all been completed, including canvassing a new roof. The doors and droplights have been built and are being hung / fitted. The various stages of painting and varnishing are well underway – with the inside virtually finished. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/22166989/in/album/402585 : More images are to follow shortly.
The refit of the Miller Fifer has continued with a range of tasks at various stages of completion. The interior work has progressed into the forecabin, whilst the main cabin has been upgraded with soft furnishings. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/24017379/in/album/402825 As a Scottish boat, a certain amount of tartan has been included ……
We have painted the steel apron for the Sentinel Steam Waggon. Final assembly of the cab, roof and apron has been completed – after a final steam test, to make sure that there are no small wisps of escaping steam. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/22163255/in/album/402739 A number of other items have also been painted and it is reported that the signwriter has been at work …….. A few extra images will be needed.
The work on the lifeboat Callout Boards has been completed, http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/24013857/in/album/402869 they were delivered in time to greet the restored “George Elmy” during an emotional return to Seaham Harbour.
There are a number of other items “in hand” but they have managed to escape the camera……but not for long….. I’ve managed a few non-work images as well, including a trip for a sponsored “pub crawl” by pulling lifeboat along the Norfolk Broads. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/23993639/in/album/463845
And Ben de-Dog has been enjoying his visits to the workshop, Whitby – even on a sunny day ! http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/24015759/in/album/402815 and getting home again……

Please – feel free to have a splash around in my photostream or paddle in the albums, you can click on the thumbnails that interest you to get a larger version.
Should you be another ipernity member then you will be able add a comment or maybe even select a favourite (or several).

August 2013 Updates :

In the last month I have uploaded about 25 images to ipernity; and begun turning the status of the vast majority for my f****r images to private, as I intend to use ipernity for displaying my work.
Also my homepage has been updated; to include the details of new projects (NSR61) and to link the image gallery titles to the relevant ipernity albums …… If all goes according to plan, details some further new work will be added shortly ……

Project reports :-
It is with considerable pleasure and pride that we announce the completion of NSR127 and that the carriage has been returned to the NSRRSRT at Caversall Road. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/25911183/in/album/402585 Some more images, from the NSRRSRT / Foxfield Railway are due to be uploaded shortly.
The low loader that collected the carriage has brought us NSR61 in exchange. Sorting out the “one off & one on” event took a certain amount of planning and occupied quite a significant area outside our workshop and part of a neighbouring area, also attracting much attention ! http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/25911143/in/album/502127 NSR61 is currently being examined as the first stage of the work to final completion that we are to undertake for the NSRRSRT, funding is mainly from a PRISM grant. Work on the doors (sub-project) has already started, with the first door already showing significant progress from this image. http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/25911145/in/album/502127
The refit of the Miller Fifer has progressed with several tasks reaching various levels of completion. A number of minor works, almost as snagging details, have continued to the interior, more work has been carried out on the cockpit coamimg / backrest and to the topsides in general, including re-varnishing the masts.
I am still aiming to get a few extra images of the work carried out on the Sentinel Steam Waggon .
I have been told that the Bread Van we overhauled for Beamish Museum has now been sign-written; and I hope to have some images shortly.
There are a number of other items “in hand” but they have managed to escape the camera……but not for long….. I’ve managed a few non-work images as well, including a trip to Whitby (again) but mainly the rescue of a Blackbird nestling http://www.ipernity.com/doc/312383/24896961/in/album/482279 to a fully fledged juvenile, currently in an avairy prior to a soft release. I suspect that it may be somewhat imprinted, but it is quite capable of finding food already.
And Ben de-Dog has been enjoying his visits to the workshop, and Whitby – even on a sunny day ! and getting home again……and walking / playing with “Ziggy” down by and in the river.

Please – feel free to have a plodge around in my photostream or dip into the albums, you can click on the thumbnails that interest you to get a larger version.

After a very long break from posting in this thread and, my goodness, I didn't realise just how long it has been !
It now seems that some changes in my circumstances should permit the resumption of updates shortly.
We have been very busy over the intervening time and I'm currently uploading a massive number of images to my Ipernity pages. Once that is finalised, then ... please check back !

The best laid plans come to naught, unless you are very, very careful ...

Circumstances have, hopefully, come full circle and my plans for updates should, maybe, work.

I recently updated my website / homepage (apart from a few images) and have just begun uploading backdated images to my Ipernity. This may well take some time ...

To summarise : The large NER 7cmpt carriage had been completed, as has a project for the Ravenglass Museum. In progress is another waggon rebuild for Bowes and we have just started the passenger brake for the Knotty Heritage Train.

The link to my albums page should still work, so please come and visit !

just a quick line _______

Sorry, my sense of humour is suffering under almost 6" of snow and the road down the hill outside is impassable without a 4x4 !

I'm still doing the backlog of updates ...
I have nearly finished the "Big Saloon" and NER 7 compartment uploads.
However, the Bowes waggon rebuild is almost finished (but the images are not ready, yet, Sorry!) and the Knotty passenger brake is making good progress, although not a lot to show as we are at the making a kit of parts stage.

Hopefully, today might make a difference to the above backlog.

Quick note to let you know how things are going (being snowed in has had *some* advantages ! )

I am still playing catch-up with project images ...
completed (or almost so) are the albums for
a) NER 2853
b) the 3ft gauge replica / exhibit for Ravenglass museum
c) Bowes "Ordinary" 971
and then I need to get up to date with the "Knotty Brake"
as well as the many other random things I see ...

The Link in my sig takes you to my "album home page" so feel free to have an explore.

My father died on 7th January this year, a few weeks before achieving his century. He was an engineer / draughtsman of the old school, having started work at the tender age 14 in the tool room stores at Hunslet Engine Company during a serious economic depression.

This bereavement has, as you might expect, been something of a disruptive factor over the last four months or so ...

However, work and real life has continued ...

Just a quickie ... not a formal update (May 2019)

NSR23. The passenger Brake Third with an accessible compartment was officially launched on the 1st of May and entered public service at the Foxfield's Victorian Gala on 4th, 5th and 6th May 2019.

More images are to follow on ipernity.
