It was announced last night over in California, that the 2017 Star Trek 'TV' Series which will sadly air on Netflix in January in the UK, will be called Star Trek: Discovery.

The 13-part series will feature the USS Discovery NCC-1031 as it's main ship. It's easy to work out this ship is TOS Movie Era as the logo confirms it's set after TMP, and same same ship design is seen on Star Trek 3 briefly.

I'll get a quote and link shortly....

Let's hope the acting and plot is better than the CGI in the promo video... I've heard that the ship is based on images used in the conception of the original Motion Picture film.

The starship is based on the late Ralph McQuarrie's Planet of the Titans refit model from 1977 (the movie script was terrible). The ship seen in service on Star Trek 3 (2280s), is seen wrecked in the Battle of Wolf 359 (2360s).
It's CGI will improve as it's early days now.

The new shop looks Klingon :/

When I first saw the video of it undocking it reminded me of a Klingon Cruiser.

Change the Klingon neck & bridge section to a big giant disc and you get the Discovery.

I'm not a fan of the ship design, but I'm looking forward to watching the series.

It's DIS.
STV & STE weren't used for VOYager & ENTerprise, so why add ST here?

Discovery sounds like a good Trek name to me.

Wooooosh.

Its still Star Trek so that goes before each name but if you can't get a little joke and play on words then I do apologise and Ill go sit in the corner to think about what I've done.

I'm sure you won't be surprised that millions of people across the globe disagree!

Course not, in fact TNG was the only one ive really enjoyed though DS9 was watchable if it was on when I was in but you know how it is with this rabid sci fi fans ;)

Star Trek has it's faults, and every spin off series had it's weak episodes, but overall it has much going for it.

( I do agree though :))

For sure Greenback - theyve certainly milked the concept for everything its worth. Ive just not had time for years for it now though so lost interest.

As I get older its antiques programmes the racing post for me.

There had been a plan in the seventies to make a new series of 'Trek as a follow on, from the cancelled original series and a model or two of the proposed new Enterprise were made. As well as a couple of episodes written. Before the idea was shelved and the latter films were made. Two the episodes were rework/modified for the second season of next geneation. The ship as has been mentioned turning up in the Battle of Wolf 357.

Star Trek: Phase 2 was the 70s series (not to be confused with the fan series of the same name).
Only test footage was filmed. Star Wars killed it.

ST: TOS
ST: TNG
ST: DS9

ST has always been used. Voyager was always just called Voyager; maybe because it was shi... and Trekkies didn't want to link it with Star Trek. Enterprise... We just won't go there.

Discovery is a decent name but I can't help feeling Star Trek lost its way over the years. I get the impression all the stories have been told. For a futuristic program I feel its a little backwards at time.

I must admit I never could take to Voyager, and Enterprise was dire for the first couple of seasons. I think that after the success of TNG and DS9, the franchise completely lost it's way.

I loved the original Star Trek despite now being very dated now.

I've enjoyed most of Next Gen and Voyager but DS9 was heavy going.

I really enjoyed Enterprise and felt it was greatly under-rated.

Like all Trek episodes, there were some outstanding ones and a few naff ones along with some of the characters.

I think the Enterprise F is meant to be an Odyssey class, it would have been nice to have had a series set then with Picard as an Admiral and all the tech from Voyager incorporated into it

I actually enjoyed watching Enterprise, although the 1st season was a bit slow. Had the next generation had modern day CGI then it would probably have been the best of all, especially if Patrick Stewart was 15 years younger and they re-filmed it today.

Update
CBS have said today that the series may be R-rated and include swearing and nudity. This is really annoying to me, as kids will either see it, or miss out on Star Trek.

Also the main cast is said to include a Klingon Captain.
