I've just discovered this while looking for something to do this weekend - however it seems to have been discontinued, I can see information it from early 2014 on the NRE website and have found a validity map on Project Mapping.

Anyone know when/why this product was discontinued? Looks like a nice little Day Ranger to me.

I don't know when this particular one came and went, but I have noticed they seem to chop and change the Day Ranger tickets in the North West quite a bit. Not sure why this might be, compared to other parts of the country.

Some time ago (2007, maybe) I had a grand day out with a similar one called the Mills and Markets Ranger - also now long gone.
The M&M DR was quite a bit cheaper than today's Lancashire Day Ranger, and covered a more restricted area (Preston/Bolton/Wigan/Manchester/Halifax/Colne/Clitheroe IIRC), but plenty for a nice day out at a reasonable cost. When I had an unexpected spare day and looked to buy another one the following year, the ticket had gone!

Adding to my annoyance, the Cheshire Day Ranger (another of my favourites) no-longer includes the Wigan/Manchester or Wigan/Warrington services, which it used to cover in the past.

So not surprising the East Lancs one has also disappeared - it did look good if available on Witch Way buses too.

I've done a fair bit of research on it and found it was introduced on 2nd January 2009, the most recent mention I've found of it is from early 2014, with the Community Rail Partnership having a song and dance over its launch, yet absolutely no mention of its demise.

The lack of choice in North West Rangers and Rovers is shocking to me, the Lancs Day Ranger is a fair chunk of money and covers an area far too big to realistically attempt to cover in one day. An East/West Lancs variation looks perfect for a bit of bashing - that East Lancs one would have only cost me £5 and I could have covered that whole area easily. Then again, I could be being a bit greedy here, I'm away in Shropshire next week - now their selection of Rangers is astonishingly bad.
