people not too learn out of the window anymore

Nothing wrong with leaning out to enjoy the noise - just a ban on bellowing. We've all done it in the past however it's 2008 not 1988, you can't get away with it anymore like you could 10 or 20 years ago.

Just a shame in this Cotton Wool world!

Not at all - it makes perfect sense to be honest. Only takes someone to whack their arm into a passing train at a fair speed for H+S and Network Rail to really start clamping down. Is it worth that just to be able to wave your arms around a bit?

As said, we've all done it - but it's best left in the past.

Tom, get over the fact your not allowed to flail and bellow anymore. There is nothing much worth bellowing at anymore, apart from heritage traction on tours.

Carry on with your actions if you insist, but don't go crying to everyone else when all droplight windows are sealed and heritage traction is banned from the mainline.

You can still flail out of windows at loco noises, just listen to some recordings and at home and do it out of your bedroom window. The only real difference is, you'll be making an idiot of yourself at home instead of on a train.

Just a precession of unneeded ganging up/victimisation. All I said is this 'Cotton Wool world' which lets be honest it is. H&S has become a lot more strict, which it has.

So just be quiet and there's no need for you all to start saying the same thing over and over again.

But is it really? Window bars have already been applied to stock in anger in the early 90s after several incidents with window hanging, culminating with a chap getting decapitated by a tunnel wall on a North Wales Kettle-ex. The current 'cotton wool world' doesn't come into it - it's happened before when the rules were a lot lighter and it can happen again.

So just be quiet and there's no need for you all to start saying the same thing over and over again.

That applies both ways regarding your original post.

It wasn't just windows - all the quarterlights on the Mk. 1 charter coaches were also pinned so they could only be opened a couple of inches.

Forgot this one, was only a nipper at the time! :)

There were a couple of positive things which came of it: Firstly, as a result of the bars, BR allowed loco hauled railtours right round the Cumbrian Coast (did my first trip round there with triple headed 20s), and secondly, it kept some of those who behave stupidly away.

I remember when the last years of Class 411 they put metal bars across the windows so that people could not lean out :) I once got asked why I put my head out the window and I told them so that i can see the loco in action , becuase if I am sitting down I cant see the loco in action just see smoke steam & countryside.

Though I think its common sense that if there is an on coming train or a tunnel to put your head back in:roll: but there are some out there that ruin it for others<(
