I've asked them on Instagram saying, 'any news about a passenger service date for the newly refurbished 158?' They've said, 'More news on this very soon.' Now you can kind of expect a response like that from a large company as they can't just say nothing. I assume this means that yes, it is nearly done but I can't find anything on RTT to do with a train from Kilmarnock to Neville Hill. Would this be where it would go to?

As it's a 3-car 158 it'll almost certainly be coming back to its usual area of Calder Valley/Copy Pit services for now, as "Northern Connect" isn't launching in the North East for some time. When 158s do head to Heaton there'll presumably need to be a fair few crew training runs as staff will no longer sign 158s.

Most of the current 158 routes will be getting new 195s so there'll probably be a lot of crew training ahead of them going on to new routes. It sounds like 3 car 158s could end up running ex-FNW services out of Victoria like Clitheroe long term.

Just seen 158752 come through Prudhoe, had a grey paint scheme.

I like the sun shining through the clouds after rain. Symbolic for rail in the North?

Love that photo! It's like a new burst of life into Northern England with the sun in the background. Meh livery, but would look better with the vinyl on.

I wonder what seats if any are fitted.
Also thinking of scotrails latest 158 reliability problems (many componants must be over 20 years old) if the refurbished extended to the mechanical bits or is just a redecoration, dda job.

I can pretty much guarantee that seats will be fitted!

Joking aside, the plan is that all 158s will be refurbished to "Northern Connect" standard, even those allocated to Manchester or West Yorkshire rather than Heaton. Whether this includes actually replacing the seats with new remains to be seen. Even if it does, this unit may not have new seats YET as Northern have only just begun their totally genuine and not PR-led research into what seats to fit to the Northern Connect fleet.

What a boring livery, not even a swoosh. :/

Agreed. Maybe vinyls to be added later...?

Definitely vinyls to be added. Deep blue around the cab ends (rather like the bodywork under the cab ends) which will mean the blue cab end doors having vinyls to make them, probably, silver/grey.

It's got new seat cushions...... Apparently it's had some PRM modifications and a bit of paint, new carpets and LED lighting, oh, and a Passenger Information System has been fitted..

has anyone got an update of the refurbed unit where is it now is it back and nevile hill and when is it going back in service

It's at Neville Hill having vinyls fitted and seats cushions covered. No idea when it'll be in service though.
