This seems like a silly question but what is simsig, i dont really know much about it.

Is it like BVE? if so, is it better?

it is basically like sitting in a power signal box and you have to control the trains in the same way you would in real life. www.simsig.co.uk has all the details on products they have and how to install, I'd recommend it, it's a good challenge and is entertaining.

I've been using SimSig for several years
Start off with an area you know, sadly they haven't any power boxes for Scotland but I am quite familiar with London Kings Cross and Stafford
Most simulations cover four screens and when busy that can be a challenge, however this also allows chained simulations with other people each controlling their own screen, or more recently adjoining simulations

The main advantage over other such signalling simulations is that you can edit or create your own timetables, although sadly for the Stafford simulation you cannot amend the line speeds or layout

Stafford
North London line
Didcot and Swindon
Westbury

Also due soon is a new version of Sheffield and a new sim of Trent.

I can't wait for the TRENT sim to come out. It appears it's going to be MASSIVE! Anyone know if it will include Derby and Nottingham?

It will include Nottingham, but not Derby. Including Derby would be a bit over the top in my opinion, it is big enough as it is ;).

Thats a shame. I would have liked to tried Derby! Hopefully it could be a future SimSig. Anybody know when Trent is likely to come out? Or the new Sheffield version for that matter, can't wait to try them.

Edit: Also does the Trent sim start at Clay Cross Junction?

The trick to SimSig is learning the area of control, the timetable and the entry points. Once your familiar with these points the rest will fall into place, allthough some of the sims are near impossible with 1 player.

Royston is a good sim for new starters as its basicly up and down with a few crossovers and level crossings.

hey all

i am a total simsig novice, and have been doing some practice on royston, and was wondering whether it is possible to change points and signals manually?

Yes it is. Providing you havent set a route over the points movethe mouse pointer over them and depending how you want to set them click either the left or right mouse buttons, the points will then flash for a few seconds while they are moved into position, after which they will be locked as denoted by either a yellow or blue rectangle. Its usually the left mouse button to set them to "normal" and the right mouse button to set them "reverse".

Signals are only set once you have set route from it (if its a controlled signal).

Hope that helps.
