So the end is here for Woolworth (or had already come for some stores)

Anyone picked up any interesting bargins?

Apart from a 50 pack of DVD-Rs and a box load of empy BD cases, I today got 4 of their in store baskets for use with my bike trailer, only £1 each!!! They are the good quality blue plastic ones as well, not the old style wire mesh type.

They were also selling their shelves and stuff - dunno how much though

I know I'll probably get laughed at here, but myself, sister and her boyfriend, all former colleagues, went into our store on it's last day.
All staff were new, taken on since the company went into administration.
The store was a mess. Rubbish all over the floors, stock lying around, half the store semi-cordoned off, no-one wearing uniform.
We were talking to the security guard, who worked there when we did, and all agreed that if it was the 'original' staff we wouldn't let it be in that state - we'd go down with a bit of pride. It was horrible to see something you've put so much effort into get destroyed, and gutted. Went past yesterday, there were bailiffs or whatever gutting the place. I do wonder what will happen to my personnel file!

On the bright side, got the store CD player for £5...

Hmmm...I've been poking my head into my local branches in Farnborough and Camberley (Both cease trading on Saturday) as I've been wanting to get hold of a few of their EPOS systems for conversion into touch-screen home entertainment and text editing boxes - Yet both stores have said that they're packing all of their EPOS equipment up and sending it away somewhere, and not selling it to customers...:sad:

Now I'm not happy about this, especially as their signs say that all stock and equipment is being sold - So I might whip out my trusty twin-bladed Axe, and try to "execute" () an action under the Trade Descriptions act... <(

Our local store closes next Monday, and although it has quite a lot of stock left, its a right mess (sort of looks like a TK Max store, with everything just chucked around) empty shelves being demolished and stacked at the front for sale. This afternoon they was a basket for sale, full of used pens, pencils and rolls of sellotape - obviously the contents of the desks upstairs swept into the basket and out for sale.

Its sad really the way its just being demolished around the staff and by this time next week there will be little evidence they were ever there.

I dont think you will get very far, like others have said, its probably owned by someone else - take the Pic n Mix stand, they aren't owned by Wollies and have signs on saying do not destroy or sell.

It's a shame there was such a large intake of staff, (in my area at least), since all this happened, as they don't have the same 'loyalty' to the company, or respect of each individual store. I am sad to say that all of the original staff in my store who (were) still there, have not found replacement jobs. A large majority of the people who worked there were nearing retirement, and have now been left with no pension.

For the record, the tills, and associated computers, in the same way as the CandyKing stands and National Lottery machines, were not owned by Woolworths... (otherwise I would have had one of the touchscreens!)

Went in the one near Filton station on Christmas Eve and nothing was left of any note given the prices. If things are really cheap then I think I'll go back on Friday.

I went into the chester store today, apparently closing today, was hardly anything of use there at all, nothing worth buying anyway. Altho was tempted to get some new shelving to go in the garage, was about £1 a shelf.

Aye...I went as far as phoning up Woolworth's receivers yesterday asking why that equipment wasn't being made available, and it would appear that all of their EPoS, handheld PC and in-store computing systems/servers are all leased by a Porterbrook-like company...

And it goes without saying that the Lotto terminals are all owned and controlled by Camelot PLC, and their distribution is strictly controlled for perfectly obvious reasons. Having said that though, I might have a bash and see if I can wangle a few wads of Lotto instant tickets at ten for a Pound later on! <D

I did notice some do not sell instructions and legal blurb posted on the CandyKing stands at Camberley store...But funnily enough, the same wasn't true at Farnborough. A bit of a "rip-off" happening there, maybe?

Didn't Woolworths have to stop selling Lottery items the day they went into Administration?

There was certainly a notice at our local store which said they were unable to sell Lottery items.

I suppose Camelot didn't want them disappearing with their equipment or owing money.

Bargains for me were from the Bognor Regis store (closed on 27th December), where cans of Dr. Pepper were going at 30p each. Three of those for me ta (could have bought the lot, sense put a stop to that)! Got a WorthIt! A5 notebook for 15p, that's getting used for my 2009 moves book!

Ah right, well I went on Boxing Day, if I'd gone on the 27th (had to rush to the station as it was to get the train, delays meant we could have popped in though <() it might have been better.

Gotta scratch Hereford's Woolworths for the last time yet though, only got tomorrow and Thursday to do it!

hmm, a shopping trolley would have been good for the allotment for moving massive bags of compost  it's a good job we didn't tell the local chavs that, they'd have bought 10 of them and dumped them on the railway

Woolworths? What a load of old rubbish left. Even their folders at 70% off are still more expensive than Sainsbury's - and they've only got the revolting colours left.

Hmmm...Today is - IIRC - The last day of the Farnborough branch, so I'm going to pop in there later on and see if there's anything interesting left for grabs. As someone who's been doing a fair bit of steel working recently (Crafting armour, razor-sharp claws, a new mobile phone holder etc.) I could make very good use of the steel cladding they often have up on the walls in there! <D
