That was quick! Another question - what time of day are the workshops usually held? Is it doable as a day trip, or is overnight hoteling required? Just looking at the possibilities as I would like to attend one sooner or later.

Also, presumably the organisers try to get a venue close to a mainline station?

All part of the service ;)

Day trips should be perfectly do-able. We usually try and aim for a start somewhere around 1100 - 1300 with a finish around 1500-1700 as a very rough estimate. It obviously depends on the people who are attending! In this case I would expect it would start after midday with the travel distance involved.

Yes venue is always close to a mainline station wherever possible. We'll probably use a venue which we've used several times now in Edinburgh which is no more than a five minute walk from the station.

Taking the 24th Sept in Edinburgh, I could get there for 1222 and depart at 1652, which allowing for getting to and from the venue would only be about three and a half hours, so might not be long enough for the full session. I have Advance tickets in my basket, which is quite exciting as CRE-EDB are 1st Class both ways and affordable, but I bet they won't be available by the time the date is decided!

Maybe I'd better wait for one nearer to home. Although a day trip to Edinburgh does sound appealing, hmmm...

It really is just an excuse for you to go to Scotland, isn't it? ;)

Could always tag a one-night stay there before or after.

These workshops are also not a one-session matter. Some people attend a few sessions as there are obviously various topics that cannot possibly all be covered in one session.

I find that comical. This is train fares we're talking about, right?

We have got at least one London fares workshop coming up, and we are also looking to host one in the North of England in the winter or Spring.

If you are interested please either reply here or send me a PM.

They are completely free to attend and we will also provide complimentary drinks & snacks.

No prior knowledge is required.

The areas we cover will vary, depending on what areas attendees choose.

I don't expect there will be much demand for one near me in Carlisle, but I can travel to Newcastle/Preston areas.

I would be interested in attending a North West / Manchester area one if early next year (say January).

This would make a great venue: http://www.1923.coffee/home/4587844869
(there's a large meeting room / function area. PM me if you want me to call in and get further details)

I would recommend attending a fares workshop even if you think you know what you are doing with fares. I certainly took away some 'refinements' to my practices. Thanks yorkie.

Here's a Doodle for a fares workshop somewhere up north : https://doodle.com/poll/whn24dh6dtdqxeca if you are interested please add your username to the Doodle and feel free to post here saying where you'd like it to be held. Suggestions could include York, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester.

If there's sufficient interest in a Midlands one, I'll add a Doodle for that (which could be Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham etc).

There will of course be a London one, but possibly not until the Spring.

I'll come along wherever it is, haven't been to one in nearly a year. Leeds would be good

May I suggest we make a new thread with more current dates? I mean we're talking on a thread where the dates for it ended nearly 3 years ago.

It might be more useful if the thread's opening post can be updated?
