I suppose the bi-modal locomotive goes all the way from Dresden to Prague, then?

I didn't know the English word for German "Kopfbahnhof" (literally, "head station" -- one with buffers at one end) and went with what I found at dict.leo.org.

Sorry, didn't explain properly, not for the first time

Terminus is quite right for Kopfbahnhof.

But in Prague it's a case of Kopfmachen (or it was, see LNW-GWR Joint's post) - the train reverses but it is a through station (Hamburg Hbf not Altona!).

The S-bahn in Hamburg Altona does not need to depart the same way where it came from.

It's perhaps a little out of the way for your trip, but I've just ridden the line from Suceava to Cluj Napoca in Northern Romania.
Electric loco hauled (CFR 40), with rather old and battered non aircon stock, the scenery was absolutely gorgeous for almost all of the 7 hour trip. I'd recommend it to anybody that likes older trains and mountainous vistas.!

Does anyone know how common it is for 111s to run the services between Munich and Garmisch. Seems sadly its mostly in the hands of Talent 2s now.

I didn't see any loco-hauled services when I stayed in Garmisch in 2015. The odd ÖBB EMU made its way up from the Innsbruck side, but otherwise all DB EMUs (4442 or something?). Think there are a couple of ICEs that go to Garmisch at weekends.

Was one set out vice all day Sun-Tue in November. Don't know if its got a solid turn or ad-hoc in yet another 'new units don't work properly farce'...

My suggestions for Germany:

ALX services Munich - Lindau over the gently scenic Allgäubahn, with a portion up the branch line to the ski resort of Oberstdorf. All loco hauled with Siemens ER20 + a mix of old compartment hauled stock. Also EC/IC service over the same routes with 2 x 218 + SBB & DB IC coaches. Route is planned for electrification in the future.

EC Services Lindau - Friedrichshafen(reverse) - Stuttgart over the spectacular Geislinger steige, hauled throughout by 2 x 218 + ÖBB IC Coaches. When the new high speed line opens from Stuttgart - Ulm long distance services will be diverted onto that.

Black Forest Railway Offenburg - Villingen, BR146 + Double deck stock. Seems safe for now, but will probably fall victim eventually to Baden-Württemburg's policy of replacing DB-supplied rolling stock with lower capacity multiple units owned by the government.

There were a couple of peak services at least last year, not seen any reports this year as far as I can remember. 111s & double deck stock. I covered them a couple of years ago - from memory they left Munich at 1620 and 1720, or something like that, but of course that may have changed. Terminated at Mittenwald I think.
