Woolwich Arsenal to Cambridge - valid via DLR?

An anytime day return from Woolwich Arsenal to Cambridge costs £36.30

An anytime day return from King's Cross to Cambridge costs £35.80.

Therefore for travelling from Woolwich Arsenal to Cambridge, the first fare is the obvious choice.

But can I simply use the DLR to commence my journey and go to Bank, then Northern Line to King's Cross?

Or do I have to take the rail service to London Bridge and change there?

The DLR route is much my preferred option for getting to King's Cross in the morning peak.

Yes that should indeed be a a valid route. That ticket has a cross on it which means it is valid for cross London travel by Docklands Light Railway and London Underground services.

And this page says that Woolwich Arsenal (DLR) and Kings Cross St Pancras (LU) are valid stations and routes.

So yes your ticket should definitely be valid on that route.

Is there not sometimes the suggestion that for tickets with a cross-London transfer element (on the Tube and/or DLR), technically you shouldn't actually commence the journey on the Tube/DLR? i.e. It is supposed to be sandwiched between two NR journeys.

Easy enough to get around in most cases - in this instance, tickets from Plumstead or Abbey Wood to Cambridge cost the same as from Woolwich Arsenal (they are both just up the line from Woolwich).

This view is taken by some LU staff, and the rules don't explicitly say one way or another. I would buy the ticket with Plumstead or Abbey Wood and start short so that this issue can't come up
