Hello all. A good friend of mine has been invited to do an online assessment for GTR (trainee driver). He's applied for the recent Ashford positions. Could anyone tell me what it's like, questions etc? I've recently started training with TL for Gillingham and didn't have to go through this process. Kind regards, BaGz

I believe this is the situational judgement so it will give situations and you have to pick the answer you deem to be the best fit from a few options. I stand to be corrected though haven't completed it myself.

Alright guys just completed the test my self very straight forward. I was wondering if it has been sent to all applicants or is it the next stage for those applications that past.

Hi,
What sort of things are they asking in the online assessment? Was just about to start it and was hoping for a heads up

No problem.
Yep took the assessment yesterday. Wasn't too bad actually. I don't think everyone gets the assessment email, I've seen another thread where someone got an email saying they wouldn't be progressing following application sift.

Was the assesment you did GTR-1? I too did this online assessment this weekend just gone closing date 19/3/17 for the ashford depot reference GTR/1403

I was wondering if this ment we have made it passed the initial application sift and on to the next stage or if it was just a generic email sent to all.

From what I can make out. It's hard making it passed the application process

Hi,out of interest how imperative is it to not go over your driver hours for the benefit of safety? Say compared to providing great customer service as to minimise disruption?... those of you who did the assessment im sure you know what question im on about.just curious as to what people think...

Safety is more important than customer service. What good is great customer service if you're too tired to drive a train properly miss a red signal and go into the back of the train in front of you?

Just to beclear if an extra 20 mins on your 9 hours would cause an extra hour delay. Is it leagal considering you are not feeling tired?

If the rules state that you are only allowed to drive for X amount of time then of course it's legal. The railway is run on a set of strict rules and regulations and being a train driver it is important that you're able to follow those.

I put safety first over convenience. They want to see who is competent enough to follow rules etc. Tho at first that question threw me. I wonder how many it will catch out?

I no threw me too. But the question saidthere will be a 20 minute delay so will that count as a break?

That question threw me off too.did not like selecting an answer which started with the word "refuse",however my instinct told me safety first always and rules and regulations. Its a safety critical role after all
