The below now features on realtime trains, do we know anything more?

"6M67 1053 Tytherington to Willesden Dc Rail Sidings"

My wife keeps horses at a farm nearby Iron Acton bypass crossing and she reports NR engineers there quite frequently, cannot be long until we see some traffic surely?

The following was just posted on another forum I follow, but I don't understand what MRL BOW or JUMBO SETS are?

stopblock said:
There is no immediate plans to start trains But MRL want to run 42 jumbo sets out of there to Bow. Current thinking is to split the set at Yate middle run half down to the quarry and return back for the second half. I've no idea of the lay out in the quarry but from talk it will involve a lot of messing around. Although how DB will even manage this with the mad axe men swinging their axes around !

Thank you for the explanation.

This is the latest from another forum member who works in Bristol PSB:

Speaking to a Network Rail MOM yesterday and he said that they are already to go just waiting on Mendip Rail. Then a colleague of mine said later to me that Colas would be working these jobs and its set to start in April.

I'd be gobsmacked if striking it endangers trains, unless NR have been really busy and cleared the cutting. ;)

I guess they're just getting ready for when the line is back open to Thornbury - in about 30 years time, going by the pace of 'progress' around rail improvements in the greater Bristol area.

The run round still goes under that overbridge so the sign would seem to be valid. According to my track diagrams the branch runs to 6m 24ch, geogis states 6m 498y which would indicate it finishing short of the a38.

No doubt the line is still 'in use', but when I looked from the overbridge next to the quarry a few months back, there was a wooden sleeper across the rails acting as a stop, before the line disappeared off into the undergrowth. I do understand that the rails continue to a set of buffers just by the A38 though.

Work being carried out on the Iron Acton bypass level crossing today.

The barriers have been removed and single file traffic control has been in place all day.

Also, signage at former Iron Acton station level crossing signage has been updated.

Must be some use on the branch soon?:(

Is that the signage that says "To contact BR phone...." so they've just updated the number without bothering about people who don't necessarily know who BR was?

What on earth will they do at the Iron Acton bypass crossing, as there are still no barriers (I drove past this morning!)?
Treat it as an open crossing where the train is required to stop (see page 11): stop, ensure that the crossing is clear, then proceed across the crossing at a safe speed (e.g. 5mph).

Were there ever any barriers at Iron Acton?
Must admit it was back in the late 70's when I commuted along the by-pass, but I can't remember any.

It's a trial run with DBC supplying a 42 vehicle top and tail train.
Initially the rear loco won't supply power, it can be called upon if required though.

There is a DBC contract in the offing for the line.

Well, I waited like an idiot for 90 minutes at the Iron Acton bypass crossing for the train to come.....

Then I was approached by a chap who said it was stopped on the branch at Yate.

Network Rail said they were running too late and not happy with the barrier situation so it did not continue.

Disappointing.

It was never going to go all the way to Tyherington. It was only planned to go as far as the temporary stop block as the line is still officially out of use.

The notice I saw clearly stated it was planned to go all the way with modified pilotman working in operation, the train was also top and tailed as the train would climb the steep grade on the line.

It did end up running very late, probably why it was cancelled, maybe somebody was out of hours etc.

It was only booked as far as the temporary stop block. That's why pilotman working was used. Had it gone all the way then the train staff would have used.
