I don't think they've monetised the videos on youtube.
Given the number of views their videos usually get, it'd make sense to monetise them.

I'm quite surprised that they aren't also raising money for a charity as it might give the trip more publicity and meaning.

I'm not a fan of videos either. But that's their thing so good luck to them.

I quite enjoy Geoff on his own, he is good on camera. That girl sidekick of his is just annoying though in these new ones, looks like he has just brought along a random librarian for the journey.

If they have below 10,000 views monetisation will no longer work. Having said that, I think you're right as they're getting way over 10,000 on each video - let alone the channel itself - aren't they?

Vicki has been in a number of Geoff's previous videos. I think they are a couple.

They are- and I've not seen any pre-roll ads. As well as the Kickstarter funding Rail Delivery Group are supporting them

Bit of a waste of an all line rover - a day in Cornwall. Could have got a Ride Cornwall ticket for £13.

Am wondering how they will manage to visit Liverpool James Street and also shouldn't totally separate stations with the same name be counted separately - such as St.Pancras Low Level and Liverpool Lime Street Low level ?

Using station signage as a guide then the main station is Liverpool Lime Street :
http://www.train-photos.net/picture/show/25441/Liverpool-Lime-Street-station-sign

whereas the low level platform (currently closed for works) is plain Lime Street :

Peartree will be another interesting one, not many trains there.

I guess they will plan to take one of the services which calls at Peartree before carrying on to Derby/Crewe (as they are merely being on a train which calls [or in the case of request stops having the ability to call] rather than having to alight/board at every station in Great Britain.

For example, Ely - Norwich line, be on the sole afternoon trains which can call at Lakenheath, remain on said train with the turnaround at Norwich to call at Spooner Row, alight at Attleborough to wait an hour for the 17:25 Cambridge which calls at Eccles & Harling Road. Alight at Thetford (or Brandon) for another hour wait before the next Cambridge service which has the ability to call at Shippea Hill.

Yes i know but i meant there arn't many which do stop there so i guess that day's planning will need to revolve around getting on one of the services which do stop there and then everything else progresses from there.

Quite, i know they've done extensive planning- those Breckland line stations are an absolute pain for them! Surprised there isn't an early or late service on at least one day that does all stops.

They'll have to do East Anglia on a Saturday or Sunday so as to call at Buckenham!

I wonder how he is going to visit Manchester United Football Ground

Why would that be a problem?

I'm pretty sure they'll still be going when the new season starts, and there's no obligation to actually go to Old Trafford if you alight at MUFG.

Yes, they are long term partners.

And several stations are down for special arrangements. MUFG is I believe aimed at a pre-season match where the crowds may not be so high. If you look at the map on the site you'll see there are two missed stations in Devon which they'll go back to on a Sunday when the trains run.

That girl 'sidekick' is his girlfriend. I think she works for the London Transport Museum. She knows her stuff. She has her own YouTube channel. I seem to remember in one of their videos they said they'd met in the Bedford pub in Balham.

In addition to their stations map/ticklist at www.allthestations.co.uk, there's a few of us on twitter collecting which diagrams and units they travel on from the (sometimes limited) information they're posting.
So far we've been lucky enough to pick up missed TOPS numbers later in the day at London, but suspect our luck will soon run out as they start to get to busier sections of the network. If anyone is able to help with filling in the missed information I'd be interested to hear from you. We're also happy to give edit access to the sheet for anyone who'd like to contribute.

He'll simply be able to get on one of the football specials (maybe if they have them going for the Carrick Testimonial?), and then get a tram/bus back to somewhere else.

I think it may be 21 May. Crystal Palace are visiting that afternoon.

MUFC is easy enough to do, as you don't have to go into the stadium, and you can easily get away by walking to the other Old Trafford with a tram away. It's just trying to plan to be at Manchester when Manchester United are at home with a "low-risk" game, hope the shuttles are on and you can actually board the train.

I guess it isn't as popular as it used to be, seeing as Metrolink is cheaper & more frequent

In random news, I think I might have been on the same train as them earlier when heading to Shanklin.

----

A hard line to plan I suspect would have been Nottingham - Skegness, some very limited served stations on that line, for example the train which calls at Swineshead doesn't call at Thorpe Culvert, the team will have an hour wait at Boston. Plus Ancaster/Rauceby*

(Edit that, 0709 Skegness to Nottingham calls at all stations to Grantham so I suspect that service will be used, along with the 1645 Nottingham to Skegness to get a call at Elton & Orston)

How will it work on lines with loads of request stops, like Cumbria coast, Central Wales or Conwy Valley? I'm sure the other passengers and train crews will not appreciate the extra delay and hassle of needless calls at every stop.

Does the timetabling not assume a call at every request stop, or at the very least that the train will need to slow in order to be ready to stop at each one?

Go to the alltheststions website:

http://allthestations.co.uk/about/

"3. Request stops have a special rule. As long as the train we are on is able to stop, if requested, then we will count it as having been visited, even if no one does actually get on or off."

as I understand it they assume stopping at a percentage of them.

It's quite clearly stated on their website how they're dealing with request stops. In fact, it's quoted in the post directly above yours.

I think philthetube was referring to how train planners dealt with request stops, not how Geoff and Vicki were treating them.

I personally haven't donated to the project but I do catch up with every video which is released and I think its a very cool thing to do, to the best of my knowledge this is the first time someone has attempted doing this and I'm interested in seeing the different stations which are passed and what architectures are there as well as me being able to see stations I might not be able to visit in my lifetime.

I've watched a few videos and find them entertaining. There's some quirky things covered such as the luggage mover. Some different camera work too, plus random interviews on the network.

I still think it would be good to try and complete the aim in a quick time, but I understand that wasn't their objective.
