I've watched a few videos and find them entertaining. There's some quirky things covered such as the luggage mover. Some different camera work too, plus random interviews on the network.

I still think it would be good to try and complete the aim in a quick time, but I understand that wasn't their objective.

To be honest I think this is a relatively quick time.

They definitely could do it a lot faster - they are traveling for about 8 hours a day. There's obviously potential to be on the go for up to eighteen hours a day (assuming normal operating times of about 6am-12mn) but I think they'd go stir crazy by the end. Could actually be fun watching Geoff and Vicki descend into madness, but I think I'd prefer good quality videos.

In addition to their stations map/ticklist at www.allthestations.co.uk, there's a few of us on twitter collecting which diagrams and units they travel on from the (sometimes limited) information they're posting.
So far we've been lucky enough to pick up missed TOPS numbers later in the day at London, but suspect our luck will soon run out as they start to get to busier sections of the network. If anyone is able to help with filling in the missed information I'd be interested to hear from you. We're also happy to give edit access to the sheet for anyone who'd like to contribute.
Trips listed so far at: http://www.allthestationsstats.co.uk/

I'm liking the stats document :D

I wonder how many train services they will have ridden by the end of their trip, perhaps they might even have been able to ride on every class of unit too ?

The map now has a filter to show individual days (currently up to date for Monday, when they covered 50!).

I'm not sure if there is a record for visiting all the request halts, but there is a book by Dixe Wills called "Tiny Stations" that describes his trips to visit them all. It's an easy read and has a good amount of humour.

I think I have been a bit sniffy about this. It is totally bonkers and I don't really understand the purpose but good luck to them!

No longer here
If they have below 10,000 views monetisation will no longer work. Having said that, I think you're right as they're getting way over 10,000 on each video - let alone the channel itself - aren't they?

Peter, it is only the *channel* that requires 10,000 views to ensure that the channel can be have monetisation turned on.

Case in point, my channel has 1.3 million views, so my channel is monetise-fine. When I post a new video I can monetise it from the outset (the first 10,000 aren't "free"!).

by "getting on and off" would having the train stop, jump off, take a photo on the platform and jump back on count for you in this, or do you mean separate trains? Because the latter would be punishing and often require taxis!

The first option would rapidly **** off the crew and other passengers on lines with lots of request stops

Lets see then: 07:06 Penzance to St Ives at 10 quid per station.

Starts at; calls at; terminates at:

1 Penzance
2 St Erth
3 Lelant Saltings
4 Lelant
5 Carbis Bay
6 St Ives

60 quid for that journey? I don't think so. What on the day of travel it's hissing it down. Would we get our money back?

Just looking at my records of my BR photo oddssey. On the 29th June 1983 I photographed the 06:55 Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh at Achnasheen, Attadale, Garve and Lochluichart. All it required was a fast Motorcycle and empty roads. Met the Driver of said service at the Kyle. He was fascinated with what I was doing, to the extent of offering me a free cab ride back to Inverness. Had to refuse as I had a further four Stations to complete that day (Achanalt, Carrbridge, Forres and Roy Bridge), plus I could not leave the bike with all my camping gear parked up unattended for such a long time.

Request stops would have been more difficult to quantify in the 80's (an 'x' in the time of the stop at the request Station was the identifing symbol in the 80's Timetables). There is a list of unstaffed Stations (c.2009) on the Web which I use in my docs, although it only applies to England and Wales.

My own criteria would include getting off exploring the local area and having a pint in a local hostelry but understand the constraints of such criteria when applied to British Steel Redcar for instance.
It should really be starting or finishing a journey at the station.
I only say I have been somewhere if I've actually gotten off (or on) a train there and as you say if you the guard would probably get fed up to the point of either ignoring your requests to stop or leaving you behind at one of them.

I must admit I still don't understand the point, and far less why anyone would want to donate money. We've now established that it won't even be visiting "all the stations" after all, which reinforces my original suspicion that the focus of attention is more about the presenters rather than the stations.

A feature on every station showing facilities, architectural details and services, plus a short history, would have been worthwhile. I know someone who has over time been round many stations on the system, disused ones included which somewhat multiplies the total, and taken such photos. They've done it without taking time off work or asking anyone for money.

Nonetheless, if people wish to donate then naturally it's up to them, but in the grand scheme of things I really think there are much more deserving causes, any one of Britain's preserved railways or preservation projects for a start.

How many stations a day were you thinking of? :p

It is apparent that they didn't raise enough for a video every day. So not only does each station not appear, neither does each day. Quite limited info from their Twitter feed too.

Having got that off my chest, I enjoy their output and have watched some of their older stuff too. A good team effort with Geoff more on the technical side and Vicki doing the historical and non-railway stuff.

Are they married? Odds for Geoff proposing at the last station?

They have said (somewhere) that there will be a documentary using all the days footage at the end of the project.

Why are people obsessed with Geoff and Vicki's relationship? What is this Eastenders?

The Isle of Wight edition with the drone footage was top class, as good as broadcast TV imo (better considering the presenters know what they are talking about).

The original kickstarter was for 2 videos per week, when they achieved that they stretched their goal to 3 then 4, not making it to 5. So they've only ever promised to do 4 videos a week. This doesn't include anything extra that Geoff's putting on his own channel which I would recommend subscribing to.

On monetisation, Geoff said (probably in one of his Q&As before the trip) that he wouldn't monetise the allthestations channel, but any extra content on his own geofftech channel will have adverts.

Haven't really thought about it on from the initial concept. Would of course depend on timetables, alternative modes of getting away from or to some stations. Don't think any caveats or special rules should apply - arrive at or depart from the stations by train. The Highland and Kyle lines would probably be the most difficult challenge.
Maybe to start off with an easier and more readily achievable target it could be request halts in England. For the English variant I think there are about 64 of them - should be manageable in two weeks.

Today they have given Shippea Hill more passengers in one day than happened at all last year....

Although how many passengers tipped out last December for those free mince pies?

And how many of those passengers would actually buy tickets from Shippea Hill rather than being on Anglia Plus (or other) rovers? ;) [at least I made my visit count in the stats with a Lakenheath - Shippea single]

There were apparently 16 people on the train in December:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-38426342

I was one of (I think) 18 "All the Stations" backers who got on this morning at Shippea Hill - though much to our surprise, we were joined by three actual passengers! I think one or two of those pictured didn't actually travel in the end, but those of us who did travel made sure to buy tickets from Shippea Hill in order to count for the statistics. :)

Definitely the maddest thing I've ever done in the name of railway enthusiasm...!
