Off Peak Tickets

What's the correct terminology when asking to buy an Off Pk ticket that is valid for a month return i.e. SVR on Avantix. Is it 'Off Peak Return', as if so it's confusingly close to 'Off Pk Day Return'. I have sometimes asked for the former but they have been about to print me a day return until I clarify I want it to be valid for a month.

It was all supposed to be so simple wasn't it???!!!

Many of the regular passengers tend to ask for an open return when they want the return half to be valid for a month... seems to work!

I've had to opt for asking for off-peak month returns.

Thanks. When I hear the term 'open' I think of it being Anytime, though I know you can get anytime day returns. Glad I'm not the only one confused by this ticket.

Mate - even some staff are stumped by it all so what chance the passengers stand I don't know! And don't even get me started on all the various off peak restrictions!!!

It's all very simple - they are valid off-peak only, apart from the fact that every route defines off-peak differently...

If only there was an emoticon for tearing my hair out.............! How we're expected to remember which routes have which restriction code applied is beyond me I'm sure it all makes sense to somebody....somewhere!!!!!

.... like "valid on any train" or "after 0500" or "for trains arriving after 1030" or "for trains departing after 0930" etc...

I asked for an Off Peak Monthly Return today and the guard thought I wanted to buy a monthly season ticket. I explained what I wanted and he said 'oh, you mean a Saver'!

Well, it's not called a monthly return. It's an "Off Peak Return". I can understand why he was confused!

I've yet to see a staff member use the new names. "Supersavers and savers" are still flying around. I suppose in a few years, the new names will take on, but no one's using them just now.

Or, my personal favourite:

"OUTWARD: not valid on trains timed to arrive London before 1023 and depart London Waterloo between 1630 and 1942 inclusive
RETURN: Valid on all trains timed to depart after 0930. Not permitted on trains arriving into London from 1730-1736 inclusive"

This one's been made up, obviously, but some of the ones I've seen have been just as far-fetched. How is anyone supposed to remember these?
