Well, it's not called a monthly return. It's an "Off Peak Return". I can understand why he was confused!
I've yet to see a staff member use the new names. "Supersavers and savers" are still flying around. I suppose in a few years, the new names will take on, but no one's using them just now.

Or, my personal favourite:
"OUTWARD: not valid on trains timed to arrive London before 1023 and depart London Waterloo between 1630 and 1942 inclusive
RETURN: Valid on all trains timed to depart after 0930. Not permitted on trains arriving into London from 1730-1736 inclusive"
This one's been made up, obviously, but some of the ones I've seen have been just as far-fetched. How is anyone supposed to remember these?
