If one tries to book a Sailrail Swansea to Wexford ticket, it should route you Swansea-Fishguard Harbour-Rosslare-Wexford, but for some reason it is routed Swansea-Holyhead-Dublin-Wexford a 14hr+ journey instead of approx 6-7hr journey via Fishguard Harbour, any idea why it routes it via Holyhead?

I tried one of the booking sites on a few different dates and got "No tickets are available, please refine your search"

Has this worked before?

Can you supply more information please? Such as what booking engine(s) you've tried, what dates & times you are looking at, and any other relevant information.

There are not many trains via Fishguard; do you have a particular itinerary in mind?

Does forcing it 'via Fishguard' help?

Thanks :)

13th July anytime is what I searched.
Virgin app brings it up via holyhead.
Irish Ferries website also does it via holyhead but says sorry it can't be booked.
National rail and virgin trains website can't find any itinerary.
Stena line / thetrainline can't find any itinerary.
I could just book it to rosslare harbour and then buy the rosslare to Wexford ticket separately but still curious as to why it routes it as it does

I always find it challenging to book Sailrail tickets as the system always seems to throw up oddities.

The current one is I'm looking to book London - Belfast on Sat 15th July.
I can get the routing via Scotland fine.
For novelty i tried to force it via Holyhead-Dublin. I got several itineraries offered. The first was moderately insane:
London - Crewe - Holyhead - Chester - Birkenhead - Overnight ferry - Belfast.
The second was more surprsing:
London - Crewe - Holyhead - Ferry to Dublin - Ferry immediately back from Dublin - Holyhead - Chester - Birkenhead - Overnight ferry - Belfast.

I then tried to look up a London -Liverpool/Birkenhead - Ferry - Belfast but it doesn't find any tickets.

Oh well, that sort of madness is quite normal.
Good luck in sorting out the ticket you're after.
Cheers,
Mr Toad

There haven't been any through Fishguard fares to stations beyond Rosslare for a year or two now. See here: http://www.brfares.com/#!fares?orig=SWA&dest=WXF - they are all routed via Holyhead. I asked ATW about it on Twitter last summer and they said they'd get back to me but they never did. It's quite ridiculous when Irish Rail specially adjust the timetable for the summer (last year they did at least) to meet the evening boat train at Rosslare.

Good Afternoon,

I wonder if the issue relates to the code 6L, which requires compulsory reservations on all legs. Not sure how you would book the Dublin Connolly to Wexford from the UK side.

Whilst the fare for a is 55.50 (via Holyhead), I have not been able to get an iternary from NRE.

If however, the destination point is Dublin Ferry Port, I am able to get the iternary.

The compulsory reservation on all legs, is a new restriction on standby tickets. Can anyone point to when this it first was first introduced?

Indigo2 is right. I had to get separate onward tickets a few years ago. I think from memory that the cessation of through tickets beyond Rosslare might have happened at about the same time as th Rosslare to Waterford line closed.

London - Crewe - Holyhead - Ferry to Dublin - Ferry immediately back from Dublin - Holyhead - Chester - Birkenhead - Overnight ferry - Belfast.
If I had a day and nothing to do I'd do that just for kicks and giggles.

How about booking London to Dublin Sailrail and buy the onward connection separately?

Iarnród Éireann will issue tickets for this route with a little persuasion, but probably only for journeys originating in ROI.

I can't get it to come up either - was hoping to get another Irish epic SailRail bargain. Last time it was Dundee-Fishguard-Rosslare-Dublin Dublin-Holyhead-Dundee with two overnight ferries for £71.

Try the Arriva Trains Wales site.
Select the trip - I've got London to Belfast.
It will at first only offer the route via Cairnryan.
The select Look at Other Fares and select the Irish Ferries Swift offering for £60.
The following mad itinerary is offered.

The next page brings up the payment details to actually buy the ticket. As it's got as far as offering seat reservations it would seem to indicate it'd actually go through with the the booking.

Cheers,
Mr Toad
