S7 21381/82 has finally been delivered to London having lain at Derby as a 6-car train since autumn 2013, as its M2D car was donated (in autumn 2012) to 21319/20 to make this an 8-car train for temporary use on the Metropolitan Line.

Is 21319/20 back to being an S7 or did Bombardier build an extra carriage? I think that one S7+1 will be permanent and the rest reformed to original config?

21319/20 is back to S7 with the removal of M2D car 25382.
S7+1 21327/28 is staying on the Metropolitan

How easy would it be to operate either an S7-1 or S8-2 set as a six car set, and while I am here, what about an S7+2 or S8+1 as an nine car set?

Lets say one or two carriages need to be withdrawn for any of a list of reasons, and either can not be repaired, or may take years to repair, would it then be viable to make a five or six car set out of that?

It could be dedicated to some new cross suburban run, or for driver only operation?

S7+2 or S8+1 wouldn't fit in any of the platforms; a short formed set could probably work but might be a bit of a squeeze in the peak - there aren't any diagrams that could really confine it to a quiet sector.

All S stock already is driver only operation.

If the fleet was forced into a sub-optimal configuration, I imagine the Olympia shuttle could be segregated from interworking with other routes in order to make it happen.

I cant wait for the S7 + 1 to go

Whenever they turn up on the Fasts , my daily trips from Rickmansworth to Moorgate are nowhere near as comfortable , as you HAVE to sit in the longituidnal seating , whereas when an s8 turns up , you will probably get a transverse seat

It won't be going... To make 58 for the MLX there's one staying forever last time I checked.

I am told that 21467/8 was delivered to Ruislip three weeks ago, so it should be in traffic imminently - that will leave only 21547/8 to turn up, I think?

Delivered 9 June into Ruislip depot.
Currently under commissioning and probably testing on ATC test road there.

I only need those two for haulage now... :D

Is there any indication yet of when the other one will be delivered?

Alright for some! I still need 70 S7 halves, including those last two pairs. Got to say I'm surprised it's taken this long to get the final sets down south mind.

Could you explain the term 'halves' in relation to S7 Stock ?

I believe Techni counts both halves (i.e 21467 & 21468) as separate entries in his files, just in case one day they end up getting split up.

----

Good news on 21467/468 coming down, gives me something to look out for along with 21439/440, although that one will probably be a case of "if I spot it, hunt it".

Unlike '09 Stock which have couplers and shunting control cabinets in the middle, so therefore could be uncoupled in service or easily in depot, S Stock have no such facilities.

They can only be uncoupled in depots using specialist equipment and each car has the same coupling between them, so effectively there is no 'middle'.

how about a 2-car S7 Stock?:

That doesn't preclude "halves" from being rearranged though - it is certainly possible that two units could be rearranged to allow for a good unit to be made out of two damaged ones.

How did that 2- car come to be? I'm assuming it was part of the merry go round of cars that were a result of the 3 S7+1s taking cars out of sequence?

I'm pretty sure it's just some more budget cuts to run on off-peak services...

I'm guessing if for any additional S8s, I'm not happy that there is no carriage numbered 22222.

21547/48 was today moved from Rail Innovation & Development Centre, Melton back to Derby. Would suggest delivery to London soon.

Fantastic news.

I was hoping to find 467/468 today, alas I've discovered from Kite159 that it was on H&C services today. I however did my hunting on the south side of the Circle!

Someone mentioned to me that 21547/8 is now at Ruislip, but I don't know for sure if that's the case. Haven't seen any of the usual posts all over the place referencing a delivery.
