Saw these two people as i was dispatching a train at Port Talbot Parkway this morning, they were travelling on 2B57 09:52 departure. Thay did not alight or took any pictures (train was in platform for 2 minutes. However the man had his camera and the lady was busy on her phone.

I heard about this project a few months ago but never really paid much attention to it, mainly due to university coursework and exams. I was reminded about it after seeing a Tweet last week and have spent the last few days catching up with their videos. I found them really enjoyable so I'm pleased I decided to watch them. It looks like they'll be in the North West and Manchester area next week so I hope the Northern strike doesn't affect them too much.

In addition to their stations map/ticklist at www.allthestations.co.uk, there's a few of us on twitter collecting which diagrams and units they travel on from the (sometimes limited) information they're posting.
So far we've been lucky enough to pick up missed TOPS numbers later in the day at London, but suspect our luck will soon run out as they start to get to busier sections of the network. If anyone is able to help with filling in the missed information I'd be interested to hear from you. We're also happy to give edit access to the sheet for anyone who'd like to contribute.
Trips listed so far at: http://www.allthestationsstats.co.uk/

Has work on this been abandoned? The info on the spreadsheet is good but I see that the stations list hasn't been updated since the end of June.

They seem to have stopped putting pictures of the trains on Twitter.

As for Port Talbot, I was on the same 483 as they were on the isle of Wight last month and it was taking pictures/video of the platform when on the train as the doors were opened.

Agreed that strike might cost them a day or two depending how much they had planned to do

The latest episode, 37 is a must watch for all Pacer lovers, they actually praise them! To say Im as happy as a pig in youknowwhat!

Quite surprised they got through Manchester several times without feeling the need to come on here and ask how to wiggle out of a Northern Manchester subcontract RPI security thug issued 80 quid Penalty fake!

Going by Twitter they did though get the authentic Blackpool North experience...

You know I'd been wondering about that, that will be an interesting one to watch for pritty much everyone accept Northern management and the tourist bord officials on the fild coast, all of who are most likely oblivious to the crap that goes on here!

I think they said they weren't filming there, just trying to take a picture, so there's no footage iirc. There was plenty of discussion on Twitter about it though, most of it getting aimed at Northern's Twitter.

Oh that is a shame.

It seams to have got worse just lately, transitioning through the other day and they made me cue to get
IN

hilarious really though the driver of the cab I had prebooked was innitially unamused but found it hilarious when I explained the normal behaviour of staff here and that it appeared to have worsened!

Made my day this!
Geoff wasn't happy, They even queried the All Line Rovers!
Northern got involved too and Geoff told them to look at the Blackpool North thread on railforums.
Shame he didn't film it

I suspect that would have been akin to pressing the nuclear button lol

And to think people earlier on this thread were questioning whether or not they were getting and depicting a genuine UK rail travel experience...

To be fair they've had their fair share of cancellations and missed connections along the way - it hasn't been plain sailing all of the time!

I've enjoyed watching their videos. Railway travel is full of ups and downs. Tell it exactly has it is. They've changed their plans many times, along the way.

99% of railway staff are brilliant. It's the 1% we remember of the Mr Jobsworth or Mr Grumpy's.

I traveled with Geoff and Vicky in Devon. A lovely couple but one guard wasn't very happy about them filming, station or train, the other the railway staff (GWR) were lovely.

I guess it was inevitable that Blackpool North would live up to their unsavoury reputation.

I can't believe the situation there has been allowed to persist for so long.

The antics and attitude of the staff at Blackpool North are simply appalling. I wonder if they're unpleasant outside of work, or whether it just starts when they step into the station.

I dont know. The irony of the whole thing is that the booking office here is excillent, let down badly by the rest of it which is no small thing these days seeing as less passengers railway journeys start with a booking office transaction and for those with Mtickets, TOD or who have simply bought from the machine that all important first impression is now from a grumpty, slightly swetty smelling yob with a bunch of keys and a pile of pre programmed stock responses to every situation. I hope the piece, tranquility and not uncommon friendly greeting from guard and driver as they change ends at South cheared Geff and Vicky up.

I had an incident at Blackpool North, My tickets got soaked and stuck together, however the ticket guy at Blackpool North did his best and helped unstick them and authorised them for travel. I went to go through the gate line and they refused! Took the ticket office bloke to actually talk to them to get through the gates. I then had no major issues all the way back to Lowestoft.

An excillent example of my point!

I stayed for a week in Blackpool a couple of years back, and the station was nothing other than a pain to use.

The staff were simply awful, hurrying people off trains so they could shut their precious doors, keeping people queuing until the last possible minute when boarding, a couple of times my valid ticket didn't work the gates and this resulted in a full-scale inquest every time, plus I got shouted at for taking a quick photo of a train after arrival.

To be fair, I did pop down to the station on the Sunday morning and the station supervisor was extremely welcoming when I asked to spend an hour on the platforms, which was granted with good grace. However despite the staff having been made aware of my presence, I got rudely shouted at by three separate staff, one station staff and two cleaning staff, including sworn at by one of the latter.

I can understand the staff there doubtlessly have to deal with a lot of crap, but to me their attitude goes beyond that. Also based on my experience there they are starting quite a lot of unnecessary conflict situations themselves.

One suspects they get away with a lot because they are tucked away at the end of what is in the grand scheme of things an insignificant branch line, off management's radar so to speak.

Yes I remember my first experience with BN when there regional Loco Hauled running into Blackpool, turned up with video camera just in time to see a couple of others with camera's being ejected from the platform. that was over 20 years ago!

I see in there latest video they are experiencing the dubious joys of Dewsbury, Kirkgate and Pacer's including a guy from Northern saying all the Pacer's are going and new trains being built. Although is that slightly misleading since the majority of exiting Pacer services are likely to get cascaded 150's or 15x.

Overall I have enjoyed it although I would have liked to have seen a more robust interview with the head of Network Rail over the shambles that is GWR electrification but he probably wouldn't have agreed to do it.

Are they married? Odds for Geoff proposing at the last station?

In one of the video's you may have noticed that she has a ring on her ring finger. Could they be married already? As for proposing, this will certainly be off camera.

Moving onto the less personal stuff regarding two people, I've been enjoying what they've done so far. So much so that I do look forward seeing them cover the Snaith Flyer (the 1716 from Leeds to Goole, 1849 Goole - Leeds) as well as the Calder Valley - if they bail out at Brighouse they'll have 30 minutes to visit the town and if they have time - the chance to visit Britain's tallest climbing wall.

I'm happy that they've visited Huddersfield though.

---

In regards with Blackpool North, the problem there is that some of the staff are on a power trip. Maybe Network Rail could "referbish" the station and when I mean referbish - I do mean by leveling the entire station building, dispense of the station staff (it'd get rid of the OCD door closing and grumpy barrier staff) and just retain the platforms with some cheapo bus shelters as per Blackpool South.

I've warned a colleague of mine that when he goes to be aware of the strange behaviour of staff at BPN, might be an idea to change at Preston and go to Blackpool South instead.

Well, speaking as that guy from Northern, I'm well aware of the cascade. ;) But obviously a) that's not really selling it very well, b) far too complicated to explain in a short interview and not particularly engaging for the audience, and c) we don't even know the exact details of what will be cascaded where yet so it would've been pointless rambling on about it. As it is, the interview got edited down a fair bit because I said some really uninteresting things. There lies the difference between someone who's really good in front of a camera and someone who isn't - it's much harder than it looks.

All credit to Geoff and Vicki - I'm amazed they are able to continue to summon up that level of both enthusiasm for their journey and patience for the people (and trains) they're dealing with after over 2 months travelling with another month to go. They are lovely, genuine people. I had arranged to meet them for the Stockport-Stalybridge journey but some other enthusiasts cottoned on and turned up on the train of their own accord, in addition to the Friends of Reddish South, the woman they interviewed at Stalybridge, and someone who knew Geoff - we basically had a carriage full of people who had turned up to meet them. I don't think I could have dealt with them as well as they did. If that's the sort of thing they are having to deal with on a regular basis (especially when it comes to the parliamentary services), they are doing an incredible job.

Interesting thanks for the insight

I was really enjoying watching this series on YouTube, but the last few episodes have gotten a little annoying, for example in the latest upload, Ardwick to Edale, they spend half the episode in New Mills telling us how awesome it is, then totally missing out the Hope valley line, except 10 seconds at Edale before heading off to Sheffield!

You can tell they don't travel north of Watford much either.

After the supposed kerfuffle at Blackpool North I don't think they even mentioned it in the video - surely problems with station staff are a reflection on the modern railway?

They didn't mention it on the video but they made it abundantly clear to Northern et al on twitter.

They've a limited amount of time on the videos - ultimately what they include is down to a judgement call and time available.

They've mentioned issues with cancellations etc along the way before, so it's not all been positive.
