As alluded to earlier, a few of us ended up on the Chieftain which made a special stop at Doncaster (and waited there for quite some time!). Rather full (though a few people left to take other services) and we were in a vestibule - not all bad though given it was a HST and we also had a conversation with a fellow passenger who was on a trip from the US, which was interesting and passed the time on the diversion quite nicely. Non-stop through Wakefield Westgate platform loop, Copley Hill chord and non-stop through Leeds p8 too.

For the return journey, a few of us took the EMT Meridian which diverted via the S&K, avoiding Doncaster. Having left York about 4L, it only carried a similar length delay out of Sheffield

Today was *not* a relaxing shift...

We did think about you - probably not the way you wished to spend your Sunday afternoon :P

Looks like the 1700 must have been a HST as it looks to have gone via Leeds and is now just about arriving in Edinburgh about an hour late.

Meanwhile the 1530 to Edinburgh has just arrived in York 258 late and has been terminated.

Electrification isn't all that then, maybe there should be more thunderbirds, as queuing them all up to many hours is surely not a good enough solution.

Also at this rate electrifying Leeds to York will be cheaper than paying delay repay for today's disruption!

Unlikely. Carrying spare water is one thing, but there just wouldn't be enough food on board to cater for everyone. Unfortunately I don't see managers trekking over fields with crates of sandwiches is going to happen. If the train happend to be in a major station with food outlets that would help for sure...

No quite I wasn't suggesting that they go trekking over fields as amusing as that image might be  But I was thinking that when a train manages to arrive at a major station (and in particular somewhere like York or Newcastle where VTEC's supplier has depots).

Doesn't that presume that there will be stock available too - water will keep but food may only be available to cater for the expected demands of the services that are being run

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
I can't see the Aberdeen running tonight, although hotels will be tricky due to the Edinburgh Frothstival in all its gastlyness.
There is a set at Aberdeen for 07:52 and it would be possible to get the HST up there in time for the 09:52 but crew may be an issue.

Doesn't that set go to Leeds? Or not on a Sunday?

Edit: Checked on RTT. It's the 1000 ex Kings Cross that goes to Leeds, but indeed not on a Sunday.

You know it's a bad day when the 22:00 Service Delivery update hasn't been sent out yet.

I suppose the alternative is to find hotels for everyone onboard who is going north of Edinburgh
I would *not* be happy to be turfed out of Waverley, at midnight, in the middle of the Festival.

Just got home from a "fun" evening down at PBO station, where I've been tweeting information to VTEC passengers who have had NO information at all from VTEC on board trains..
As I left, the 2146 to Newcastle pulled in, running 62 mins late!!!

I feel sorry for anyone stuck on 1S20. It's not expected into ABD until 02:30.

I have to say, I feel extremely lucky tonight as my journey from Doncaster to London on 2116 ex-Leeds went off without a hitch. Getting into London at after 1am would not have been fun...

At least London still has buses etc running then, some trains too e.g. thameslink, the unfortunate pax on the Aberdeen will find nout but seaguls there at gone 2am.

There should still be a fair amount of taxis on the road, therefore anyone whose journey ends in Aberdeen should be able to get home. I'd imagine there would still be a few late-night takeaways open too, for those who are in need of sustenance. It won't be as easy for those who would have had an onward connection, though.

In circumstances like these, would the TOC arrange taxis to take people directly to their homes, or would it still only be to their destination station?

Technically only to their destination station but, from my experience, if you ask the taxi driver will take you to your door unless it's miles out of the way.

Road transport would probably be a nightmare too with the festival being on.

14:00 KGX ABD now expected 02:39. I think even as a died in the wool enthusiast this train journey, had I been on it would put me off cranking and railways for life!

I dread to think what conditions onboard are like, water for toilets likely to have run out hours ago I suspect?

It has lost quite a bit of time since leaving Edinburgh. The chances of getting that kebab are looking slimmer too :)

Given the level of the disruption yesterday I think today's passengers have got off lightly!
