On behalf of the forum, the Quizmasters are very pleased to announce that we have been kindly donated a hardback copy of "Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations" by Simon Jenkins (£25 RRP). To coincide with the book's publication, we will be offering this copy to all members as part of a small competition.

It is the scene for our hopeful beginnings and our intended ends, and the timeless experiences of coming and going, meeting, greeting and parting. It is an institution with its own rituals and priests, and a long-neglected aspect of Britain's architecture. And yet so little do we look at the railway station.

Simon Jenkins has travelled the length and breadth of Great Britain, from Waterloo to Wemyss Bay, Betws-y-Coed to Beverley, to select his hundred best. Blending his usual insight and authority with his personal reflections and experiences - including his founding the Railway Heritage Trust - the foremost expert on our national heritage deftly reveals the history, geography, design and significance of each of these glories.

Beautifully illustrated with colour photographs throughout, this joyous exploration of our social history shows the station's role in the national imagination; champions the engineers, architects and rival companies that made them possible; and tells the story behind the triumphs and follies of these very British creations.

These are the marvellous, often undersung places that link our nation, celebrated like never before.

Taking inspiration from the book, we have compiled a short game of "Guess the Station," featuring 20 stations; all of which can be found throughout its pages. As well as a copy of the book, some forum badges and pens are also up for grabs for both the winner and runners-up, including a badge commemorating the forum's 10th anniversary.

1st Prize: Hardback copy of "Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations," plus the forum's two newest badges
2nd Prize: All three forum badges
3rd Prize: Two most recent forum badges

The member who wins first prize can either have the book posted to them, or can collect it at an official forum meet. All winners will also recieve some RailUK Forum pens.

Submissions should be submitted by PM to myself, with the entry for deadlines at 2000, 2nd October. Only your first submission will be counted; if a tie occurs then the winner will be decided through a random ballot. Prizes are awarded at the discretion of the Quizmasters in line with the terms and conditions laid out in this post. In the event of a dispute the decision of the Forum Staff is final.

Good luck everyone!

Just a reminder that there is now less than a day until the competition closes for entries.

I'm annoyed mostly about 3 and 6, 3 I was there not very long ago when I was in Scotland and should have noticed it and 6 I thought is it Southgate (I put Turnpike Lane) but didn't go for it.

Now we have to wait for the winners, probably not ne though!

I have not yet figured out how to reply without quoting with this new software but can some kind soul tell me which station is illustrated on the cover?
I am not prepared to reveal my total ignorance by naming names!

That's a good question!
I was wondering if it was Wemyss Bay.

Just type straight into the box at the bottom of the screen without clicking reply on a post.
