The last couple of times you were supposed to fill in the details on the website, it's not a new thing.
But there wasn't any kind of check to see if what you entered was valid

I've just had a look and it doesn't let you do this any more, it checks for a valid date and station.
I'll 'print' the form to a PDF, then erase the bits I don't want filled in yet.

Tokens look similar to previous ones . Means I can do a £10 return Preston to York by boring DMU, usually a 158, to visit the NRM there .

I was referring to Leyland /Chorley Guardian , Lancashire Evening Post. I assume all tokens are identical anyway because you cant tell where they came from.

Is there anything stopping me using the Trinity Mirror form and attaching 2 tokens from a Johnston Press paper? Do the tokens look any different?

I can confirm, the tokens are identical to last time. Heck, apart from a larger logo for the newspaper and changed dates, the entire ad is identical (at least in The Sentinel in Stoke). I've got 14 tokens now lol

EDIT: By the way, I think this has been mentioned before, but Yorkshire Travel on http://www.yorkshiretravel.net is very good for selecting a single operator if you put in two stations. Click the gear on the right and you can choose "Northern" as the operator in there. It does seem to get confused by inter-station transfer with this though, meaning searching Crewe to York it tells me to wait over an hour in Manchester Piccadilly for the service to Sheffield->Leeds->York rather than go to Manchester Victoria and change at Bradford.

Are the tokens in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph printed daily, or just Monday's editions?

My intention is to purchase a few copies next Tuesday when changing trains at Preston.

In past offers , the Lancashire Evening Post ( thats the paper available at Preston)has printed them daily , would think its same again. Incidentally , my local weekly The Leyland Guardian (£1.15) comes out on Tuesday with a token , should be on sale at Preston ! I think the LEP is 70p

Also , Northern Rail are on strike Tues Oct 3rd and Thu Oct 5th .. I dont know if changing trains involves Northern ..?

Bit of a shame that these offers never include the Network Railcard, which nowadays is seemingly being marketed alongside the national Railcards, but I suppose the fact it still exists and is no longer treated as an awkward oddity is good enough!

(Nonetheless, I continually come across people who aren't aware of it, and for whom it would be beneficial... a 10% off or £5 off promotion might grab their attention... then again perhaps some of the participating TOCs remain a bit lukewarm on it?)

I agree although we should be grateful that the Network card exists at all. Best way to get one on the cheap is to find a Gold Card holder who can get one (or any other railcard) for £10.

It was good in the past when you could get a Network Railcard (in the distant past branded as a 'Gold Card Partners Card' on special ticket stock) for just £1... even better when the ticket clerk forgot to stamp the Gold Card with the relevant stamp to it indicate the cheapo Network Railcard had been issued... of course the latter could still happen, albeit for a £10 Railcard instead!

All that said, I'm happy that the Network Railcard now seems here to stay.

A look at the terms implies that most papers are printing tokens on three days only this time.

A Partner Card for £1 was an absolute bargain!

I think there'd (rightly) be an outcry if they got rid of the Network Railcard - the Daily Hate would have a field day with a headline proclaiming that the railway was hiking Off Peak Fares by 50% in the South East...

Orginally with the Gold Card (or whatever it was called then) you could get 1/2 off journeys within the NSE area and 1/3 off all other journeys.

Or <ahem> when the ticket clerk issuing you a replacement because the magstripe is worn out, and doesn't carry the stamp from the old one to the new one...

I purchased the Lancashire Evening Post at Preston this morning. It seems that it is just Monday's editions that it is in as I did not see a token in it at all.

I have got a couple of copies of the Stoke Sentinel from both Crewe and Stoke on Trent stations.

Some weekly papers in the JP groups such as the Chorley and Leyland Guardians, presumably are available at WH Smiths at Preston station, are published on a Tuesday , ie today , so they would hope you could buy those instead of the LEP ?

I've this afternoon just bought 10 Lancashire Evening Posts from my local supermarket and the tokens were thankfully issued. I was worried after reading adrock1976's experience that I'd wasted £7.50 on 10 copies.

I'd check your LEP again adrock1976, they're are hard to find towards the back pages of the paper in among all the ads etc.

Which is sort of good considering they have gone up from something like £37 to £52 even three months out.
I didn't realise they used to be so cheap! If I do visit Hull I'd be tempted to give Hull Trains a try (well if I was travelling in standard I'd definitely try Hull Trains as I can't stand the old BR seats in the EMT set they always use to Hull, but I like the old first class seats).

Outside of sale periods I have noticed that VTEC seems to be getting more expensive which, to put mildly, is annoying. The 'Hot Cakes' sales where they'd offer really cheap fares a few days in advance was one of the few decent things they have done this year.

They have little other choice though. Raising fares is probably there only option to increase revenue. All it does is push people away. With prices rising and the catering standards taking a nose dive (is a trolley service even a thing anymore) they have to increase fares.

IIRC, the hot cakes sales were mainly because they'd introduced more trains and by having a quick sale it got more people aware of the new services. It also helped fill otherwise empty(ish) trains.
