Just seen a Torquay hop 12 branded Enviro400 in Exeter depot, one of the old ones. I wonder what it will be doing in Exeter?

This is probably there for the branding to be removed in preparation for the new vehicles. 15789,92,95,96 have already been done.

Somewhere you won't find me
I noticed a enviro 200 on the Bristol 77 today which had Megabus advertising all over it. To me it seemed like it could easily be confused for a actual Megabus
That was 37008.

I saw 36175 on the 77 today which my records show as being allocated to Gloucester. Possibly transferred to North Bristol but more likely covering for a North Bristol E200 under maintenance.

Nothing special observed in the Yate are of late. Just the regular North Bristol Solos and E200s on the 84, 85, 86 and 622 services, and the Stroud Solos on the 620 service.

Viewed The Ride this morning and visable were 17520 in Magic Bus blue route branded for route 144 presumably here for spares recovery.
33865 has returned from Exeter.
Also present were at least 4 Hop 12's but no identifacation was possible.

Those were likely 15306/7/8/10 but more should be joining them soon.

19569-72 from Torquay are currently arriving at Exeter ready for transfer to Merseyside, with 37440-44 from Merseyside are due to be transferring to the South West for operation out of Plymouth depot.

18071, 18112/4/5 from Exeter are now in Torquay to temporarily replace 19569-72 there. 10499-503 have transferred from Plymouth to Exeter with Exeter likely to transfer some vehicles to Plymouth in return. There will be some gaps in the fleet but these gaps will be filled by the old hop12s eventually.

The swaps took place yesterday between South West & Merseyside, 19569-72 delivered to Chester yesterday, in fact I'm told 19572 has been in use at Chester today.....

They were. All 22 of the new Scania N250UD/ADL Enviro400 MMCs (17 in Hop 12 livery and the remaining 5 in standard Stagecoach colours although to the same internal specification) were lined up on Paignton seafront on the morning on Thursday 8th November, for a photographic and press launch - cue predictable "you wait ages for a bus then 22 come along at once" headlines. They were then phased into service during the day.

While at work this afternoon I had, and took, the opportunity of sampling the new order on Services 120 & 130 between Blaencwm / Blaenrhondda and Pontypridd / Caerphilly over in South Wales which have fairly recently been converted to a Stagecoach Gold routes. The Enviro200s in Stagecoach livery which used to operate those routes have now been replaced by Enviro200 MMCs one of which was my stead today, between Llwynypia and Porth, in the guise of 26183, YX67 UZT.

Also my first time riding an Enviro200 MMC: found the ride quality to be good and, IMO, better than the older non-MMC Enviro200s. I commented so to the driver of 26183 and he agreed.

Anybody any idea if Stagecoach have any plans for their Plymouth operations in 2018. They took over from First here late in 2015 thought they would look to build now?

I don’t believe they are particularly interested in growing. They’ve cut back service frequencies.
My suspicion has always been they wanted the depot for megabus and the falcon they were planning at the time,
They’ve kept the 3 routes Plymouth Citybus weren’t interested in, the lucrative park and rides, and the very busy saltash to plymstock corridor.

Totally agree that Stagecoach wanted Plymouth for strategic reasons, as it reduced the number of Megabus vehicles going back and forth empty to and from Exeter. It also enabled a few duties on the long X38 and Gold routes to start and finish at the Plymouth end.

Although they do compete with Plymouth Citybus directly on the Plymstock-Saltash cross-city corridor, and to a lesser extent up to Derriford Hospital, both operators seem to be avoiding an all-out bus war - wisely, in my opinion.

Following on, I have wondered what would have happened had Stagecoach not moved into Plymouth in September 2015.

I got the impression First sold out because Stagecoach made them a decent offer, if that offer had not been forthcoming would they have stayed put?

Or would First have pulled out anyway, leaving other operators to pick up the pieces?

I can't imagine that Plymouth CityBus would not have gone for the Tavistock route, and the Park-and-Rides. They would also have increased their coverage in Plymstock, but by nowhere near the 6 bph (buses per hour) that Stagecoach currently provides on the 2 group. I don't think Saltash would be more than 8 bph if it was solely with CityBus.

I expect Target Travel would have taken on the 48, and possibly the 93 (which is now route 3 under Stagecoach) although I could also see Tally Ho being tempted to try it with six well-depreciated second-hand 'deckers. This route does receive some subsidy from Devon County Council.

I had an outing to Torbay today primarily to see the newish Scania’s/ E400MMC on service 12. All were seen during the day although some were on service 22.
Only working of note was Dart 34877 on service 12 seen at Churston early afternoon.

Schedules were rather awry due to a long term road closure and subsequent diversion in Torquay. There was a lot of ‘bunching’ but to be fair controllers were on hand at Torquay and Paignton monitoring services and a few relief services ran.

All buses were clean and tidy and staff polite and professional even making on board announcements about the road closures. Thumbs up from me and the £5 day rider ticket was good value for money.

Can anyone shed any light on what routes the ex Chester E200 MMC’s (37440 - 37444) operate on?

I have not seen any of them in Plymouth during three visits in the last month.

Do you mean service 3 (Plymouth - Kingsbridge - Dartmouth) or X64 (Totnes - Dartmouth). I have not seen them on the 3 on recent visits to Plymouth.

I’ve seen them in Saltash on the 2, but they were meant to be for converting the 3 to single decker. I don’t cover much of the 3 route in my van so rarely see what’s running that.

The few photos on Flickr do indicate that they are allocated to that route.

Looks like I have been either unlucky or in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I will check the timetable before I go next time.

The Torbay 122 timetable for the coming season is on traveline, commencing 24/3 with a slight route change against 2017.
