I'm pleased to say that we have just passed the milestone of 3 Million posts on the forums and would like to thank all of you who have provided valuable content, helped others with their fare enquiries and diagram questions, and all other useful posts that have been made! Despite the upheaval with the new forum, November is on track to be our second busiest month ever in terms of posts, after January 2012.

We have had our challenges this year, with a number of features being disabled primarily due to the age of our old forum software no longer being able to support some things that we had set up. However, it has almost been two months since the new software was launched and whilst change is usually a bad thing, we spent a long time before the new forum was launched, and since then, making the forum look and feel just like the old one, with a small number of changes. Many thanks to all of those who assisted with the pre-launch testing over the previous year and also those who assisted with providing valuable feedback since we launched on October 6th. Hopefully in the near future we can say that all of the comments made have either been actioned or a response given.

I haven't had the opportunity to post any statistics recently, so in order to make the most of the occasion, please find some information below.

Congratulations on your +3m posts. :) And big thanks to the people in the background who keep this corner of the web ticking over.

This can be fixed, easily. Depends how much wibble you're willing to put up with...

Very interesting to see that the majority of users are coming from mobile.

I think that's to be expected of a website primarily dedicated to transport with a high proportion of posts about live travel issues and help.
The new software adapts much better than the old to portrait aspect handheld devices, in my case obviating the need for Tapatalk.

I have to echo your thanks! Though the fact that 03:00-04:00 is the least busy of the overnight hours is a surprise. The most popular isn't a surprise, though maybe I'd have guessed one hour earlier.
Blackberry - 0.13%
Maybe Blackberry's aren't as popular as I thought they were - but then what can I way as I don't use one!

I do love a good set of statistics as well, so thanks for producing them!

Congratulations staff members, that’s a mighty number and may I just say although I was a little sceptical at first I really like and prefer this cool new software!

I am fairly certain I bagged the millionth one way back when. That's the only milestone that matters ;)

I think this thread should be made a temporary "sticky" thread on the main UK Railway Discussion board given the achievement and that fact that I don't think many posters visit this subsection and therefore don't know about the achievement. I would also like to know who made that 3 millionth post! :)

Post #3,000,000 has been deleted: https://www.railforums.co.uk/posts/3000000
Note the message is different to https://www.railforums.co.uk/posts/10000000, which hasn't been posted yet

Presumably an administrator or moderator can see what it is!

This works for https://www.railforums.co.uk/posts/3000001 and https://www.railforums.co.uk/posts/2999999, and so it tells us that the post was posted between 09:30 and 09:35 on the 24th May.

Post #3,200,000 is in the thread Windows 7 end of support query, which is the most recent 100,000th post, at 04:58 on the 15th November, less than 6 months for 200,000 posts!:
I'd just upgrade to Windows 10. I am pretty sure it's still free, and any computer that ran Windows 7 will almost certainly run Windows 10 - and better (making better use of older spec hardware).

Just seen this thread. My first thought, RIP Firefox!

I still use it, but apparently Google has it killed. Interesting how many Mac users there must be though, with all the Safari love.

And for anyone who is wondering, it's bb21 who holds the honour.

But in a cruel twist of fate it turns out that that wasn't the 3 millionth post! I am reliably informed that you cannot use the post numbers to work out which post it was and it's a rather involved process so we are not likely to find out. The winner, whoever they are, posted a few days prior to Mojo starting this thread. Not all the way back in May.

So it all depends on what you mean by 'the three millionth post'. I'd vote for @A Challenge 's definition personally :D

If an Admin looks at the posts table of the database, which post was the millionth going by the post id field which could possibly be an autonumber field?

Would it not be the case that post numbers are not reassigned when a post is deleted, i.e. each number can only ever be used once and in sequential order.

Would the millionth post be any easier to find than the "3 millionth"?

Why would the millionth post be any easier to find than the "3 millionth"?
Nope because the post is still there and can be viewed by moderators/admins.

It has not been deleted it's in the Staff Forum.
It is the 3,000,000th post when including deletions.

Is the post releasable onto the main forum (meaning not containing sensitive information) - it would be funny if it was as simple as 'I agree'!

Nope because the post is still there and can be viewed by moderators/admins.
That's why I asked what it is!

We should perhaps raise a glass to absent friends who contributed to that impressive total. In the time that I've been a member of the forum I can think of three members that have passed away and I dare say there are others that we are not aware of.
