Mine didn’t say just that I was unsuccessful

However I am from grays in Essex and on a good run with no traffic I’m a 55min drive or 59min on train, so distance might have been a reason.... or could’ve been they didn’t like my application!!!!
When I applied for Southeastern in the past they specified it was because of distance. Perhaps other TOCs don't do that.

I never had faith in the 'no news is good news' sentiment. I prefer to be realistic. My motto is 'prepare for the worst, hope for the best'.

I am braced for the bad news.

I believe there were some interviews recently done, presumably for the January course.
That is correct - they were running interviews alongside the assessments when I went for my assessments a few weeks back. There were certainly some characters being interviewed which shows that passing the assessments is one thing but the interviewers need to be also sure you are "normal" as well.

Oh really?

Interviewer: Tell us about a time when you went above and beyond what was expected of you?

Candidate: I didn't. I'm just a normal bloke. Nothing extra. Nothing fancy.

Interviewer: Welcome aboard!

I hope that's not the case - but I think you know what I was implying.

Was it a good phonecall?
Haven't phoned back yet Baz, must be an ok call otherwise why would they ring. Normally the dreaded thanks but no thanks is an email.
Will call her later to find out and decline as i'm already training at another toc.

Well done for securing another position. How far along did you go with SWR? Just the initial application or did you go to assessments?

Just the initial application (was SWT trains then!) but I had already passed the assesments and mmi with another toc.
So to all those waiting for a reply, just look at my case. It took just over a year. (I had forgotten that I actualy applied!)

So if you pass everything with another toc then you don’t need to to do the assessments. I passed but failed my interview so now I’m still waiting to see if my application with swr goes through

So does that mean people who have still not heard anything have still got a chance.

If you’ve heard nothing then you are on the list, but I would assume to make the January course you would have completed your assessment stage of recruitment by this point as a minimum.

The course after January would be Feb/March. So hold out for this, but be patient. As previously stated by many people in this thread, there’s many who apply for one position. So you won’t be instantly told you are being invited to an assessment.

It’s the waiting game, some wait years, some wait months. It’s highly frustrating, but worth exercising patience. Could always ring recruitment and check the status of your application if you’ve been waiting a long time. The number is towards the beginning of this thread.

Heard through the grapevine SWR, atm, are focusing on the Basingstoke and Wimbledon depot? So Waterloo applicants will have to wait abit longer. This may change next month though.

Hello to all still following this thread.

Thanks to everyone who's posted as it's been very informative. After following up my application for Waterloo wave 1, I got an email saying I'd passed screening and would be invoted for screening (in due course). This was on 14th December.

Can anyone provide any info on what sort of assessment this will be (psychometric/numeric etc)?

Judging by earlier posts I'm one of the last to be invited, I'd expect the assessment to be sometime in January. Anyone else expecting the same?

It took six months for my initial call for assessment, then a year from those for mt next interview. It won't be quick...

Well, at that pace I may be dead by the time they get in touch :frown: (if they do). I'm not in my twenties anymore...

I wish you were absolutely right, but I think it's not that certain that we are on the list, if we have heard nothing. I sent them an email last Thursday night asking about my application. They replied to me the day after in the afternoon, which proves that HR are really top-notch, as said before. This is what they said: "I can confirm that your application is still waiting to be screened, and we will be contacting candidates in due course to advise of any relevant next steps. Unfortunately, the response for this role was extraordinarily high, so we are re-evaluating the headcount we aim to add at each depot."

Therefore my interpretation of that would be, and I hope I'm wrong, that they still haven't finished going through all applications and the whole skimming process.

To be continued.

It also sounds like they may be looking into the possibility of recruiting more people than they first planned: "we are re-evaluating the headcount we aim to add at each depot."
