Hi,
I accidentally marked every thread as unread. Is there a way to undo this please?

Just mark them all as "read" from the top of the home page?

Sorry! I meant the other way round! I marked them all as read accidentally and I want to mark them as unread again now.

Ah... I don't think that can be done; you'll probably have to look for anything you missed the hard way by manually checking the dates of the recent posts on all the threads you regularly read...
Yes 'Mark as Read' should be used with caution as there is no way to undo it!

I can't find the rules about attachments in the new forums, as I was trying to attach a .xlsx file, which I think was allowed under the old forum (there was a list in the attachment box I remember, and including a very wide set) but what is the rule with this?

Hi, a few quick questions.
Have you got rid of the ability to like status posts or am I just going mad?
Do Quizzes and Games posts count towards your number of messages? They never used to, then that changed and they did following the update - now it seems they don’t again.

Posts in the Quizzes and Games forum have not contributed towards total post counts for a number of years. I don't recall it doing so but if any counted after the update, this (like above) was before the full forum settings were applied.

If my memory serves me right, it was 2012 when the website staff took the decision not to allow postings on the Quizzes and Games forum to be added to the officially recognised posting totals of each website member. It was also at that time when the website set up their accredited forum quizmaster team.
Cheers Paul, I didn't even notice that the quizzes didn't count. That said the only quiz I really take part in on here is the General Knowledge one.

Just a simple question ...if I submit a new post or start a new thread, why dont I see it in the 'new posts' sub headings almost immediately ? Does someone read them before they are published in the Forums ?
The new posts page only shows threads with posts you haven't read. You've read your own posts.
And to answer that question in the vast majority of cases we do not read posts or threads before they are published on the Forum. There are simply too many for us to be able to do it!
Just an update on Tapatalk: We've been looking into this as a staff team and have decided that Tapatalk support isn't something we'll be looking at offering for now. There are a few reasons for this:
- Technical implementation issues (such as there being no way of disabling Tapatalk's inbuilt Like functionality)
- We feel that the mobile experience has dramatically improved following the update to the forum software, and we've been working on the mobile view specifically to make it as good as we can
- Tapatalk's free version puts a 'Posted with Tapatalk' line at the end of each post
- Tapatalk is ad-supported, but the ads don't support the forum (they support the Tapatalk developers instead)
- Quite simply, we see it as a low priority issue, and the effort involved to overcome the above issues isn't worth doing as there's a suitable mobile interface

I may have missed it in the course of the thread, but is there a specific reason that Likes don't get any love? On other fora I have been involved with (both as member and moderator) they were a good way to cut down on 'Me too.' posts.
It's already been discussed in the first few pages of this thread I believe - basically, we had previous issues when reputation was enabled on the forum a few years back, with the forum turning more into a popularity contest.
I have seen that happening too. Was that with thumbs up/down, kudos or likes?
This was with a thumbs up/thumbs down style system.
I know it's likely all be discussed previously, but I used to moderate a forum with about 5000 or so active members and we had an anonymous 'Like' system rather than thumbs up/down. IIRC only the poster (and moderators) could see who had actually liked the post.
It worked quite well - there might have been some amount of "Like for like." but we didn't have thumb wars or cliques ganging up to thumbs down particular posters.

This issue has been extensively discussed previously, so unfortunately we will not be revisiting this in the foreseeable future. While we understand that it is disappointing news for some members, we have to make a decision in the best interests of the forum and that is one which has been unanimously agreed on and feedback from the general membership has always been consistently in support of not having that feature.

This can be turned off by the user. They just need to be encouraged to do it.
Forum owners do get to keep a share of the revenue.
My biggest problem with Tapatalk as a forum owner is the banners and popups they put on the site telling people to install their app. I've managed to remove this on my sites, but there's no easy way to do it.
We had a poll on this subject, and more people voted not to have such a button than those who voted to have one.
You were lucky, that has happened elsewhere is people vote for the most extreme posts. For example on MoneySavingExpert, I remember a horse riders vs car owners discussion; extreme posts (on both sides) got plenty of 'thanks' (aka 'likes') while people who posted in the middle-ground didn't.
I got hardly any 'thanks' for posting help to fares queries (especially if the person was unhappy at being told the rail industry was in the right, as is sometimes the case) while someone posting really extreme views would tend to get plenty of 'thanks' from people who had a similar viewpoint.
Can you imagine how that will play out in threads such as the Southern DOO thread?

We have discussed the idea at length many times and carefully considered the pros and cons, and we have no plans to change our decision. Sorry.
Understood. If and when it does come up for discussion again I hope you consider a 'Like-only' system as it cuts down 'me too' posts and doesn't have the negatives that come with any system that allows downvoting.
Regarding the encouragement to turn off the signature, we can do, but as Tapatalk advertises itself on the forum when accessed on mobile, people aren't going to see any encouragement to do this - in practice that's not going to be seen.
Also, as we rely on the advertising revenue to run it, Tapatalk's revenue share deal is a bad deal from our perspective compared to our current setup with Google.
As I said, it's possible to remove this annoying and user unfriendly 'feature'.
I'm not a fan of Tapatalk myself, I think it's unnecessary for forums that work well on mobiles. But I can understand why people use it for some of the features like notifications.
If I was starting a new forum from scratch I definitely wouldn't install Tapatalk. The only reason I have it on my sites is because I had existing users who wanted to continue using it after the move to Xenforo.
